This device is listed as a 3 minute timer. The problem: the sand runs out after 1 minute and 37 seconds! (I tested this with a digital time four times.) It's beautiful, but not reliable. DO NOT BUY. (I returned this device.)

Keep your digital timers. There is nothing better than the old sand timers. This thing is beautiful and works the way a timer should. I bought the 3-minute timer because I like soft-boiled eggs and I've tried the digital and the turn-type timers. For one thing, the digital timers work fine until you have to change the battery and you can't find them, and as far as those turn-to-the-minute times are concerned I haven't been able to find one to work. I love the old sand-timers. This thing is brass (or looks brass) and with black sand and it really looks and works great. Love it.
