Small flakes. Made great cashew parmesan cheese. Not as salty like. Umami flavor.
Nutritional yeast became one of my favorite ingredients/foods when I started making my own non dairy cheeses because I am lactose intolerant a few years ago. This was before one could go to a store and buy non dairy cheeses with ease.I have tried quite a few nutritional flakes. This time I am trying Judee's FORTIFIED nutritional yeast flakes. I do try to use the fortified because I want the extra B vitamins. What this is:This is a one pound bag of Fortified Nutritional Yeast Flakes. It is made in a gluten free and nut free facility in Plain City, Ohio.I have tried a handful of Judee's products now. I have been happy with all of them.On the back of the bag, there is a recipe for a plant based cheese sauce. I did not try this instead I made my cashew parmesan cheese. To open the bag, it is flakes not powder. To taste straight out of the bag, this has a good flavor to it. Not as salty tasting as others. Ever so Slightly sweet. I can taste a mild "cheesy" flavor. This has some umami flavor. To make my cashew parmesan (as in my second photo), I combined about 1 cup of cashews, about 3 slightly heaping tablespoons of Judee's nutritional yeast, 1 teaspoon of good garlic powder and 1 teaspoon of salt. I put them in my high powered blender and pulsed til I had the texture I wanted. To taste it, it tastes EXACTLY as I expect the cashew parmesan to taste.5 stars: These yeast flakes are exactly what I expect yeast flakes to be. They are not as salty like as others. Would definitely buy again. The price is about what I pay for other brands. 1 pound will go a far way for me.

Great flavor, good price
I have been a nutritional yeast fan for years (more than 10!). Fans often refer to it as ‘nooch’ and it is an absolute necessity in my house. My primary use is as a substitute for grated parmesan cheese on pasta and salads (and grits, believe it or not!). It is also excellent on popcorn and helps to reduce the sodium intake. The flavor is excellent - a cheesy, nutty, slightly umami flavor. It also works great as a thickener in certain dishes, and then finally it can be used to make a really nice vegan cheese sauce (there is even a recipe on the package). It comes in a heavy-duty resealable bag and one pound is a pretty large amount, considering it is dry. Note that this is ‘fortified’ nooch - nooch comes in two different forms - fortified and unfortified. Fortified (like this Judees product) is the most common, and it is fortified with essential B vitamins (B-12 in particular). If you are a vegan you probably want the fortified version as vegan diets can sometimes be lacking in B-12. If you are not a vegan, it probably doesn’t matter whether it is fortified or not… the flavor is essentially the same. I personally am not vegan although I rarely consume animal products - I just happen to prefer it that way. I will also add that I have had other Judee’s products and they are notable for their quality, as well as simplicity of ingredients… they don’t use many additives, fillers, etc. just quality ingredients. Overall I am a fan of Judee’s and am a definite fan of this nooch!

Standard Great Tasting Nutritional Yeast, But My Package Wouldn't Reseal
Nutritional Yeast is an inactive yeast that is full of B vitamins and flavor. It is a great way to make vegan cheeses or just add extra nutritional benefits and a nice rich nutty/cheese-like flavor. Our family uses a ton of nutritional yeast so I was thrilled to be able to try this product brand. It didn't disappoint and it is just as expected with nutritional yeast. A night bright yellow color, dry flakes that do not clump together, and a savory strong cheesy smell. The package on the other hand was a disappointment because once I opened it would not seal again no matter what I tried. Thankfully I have many bulk containers that are food-grade so I just transferred them out of the bag. I advise having one available just in case the packaging not resealing for me wasn't just my bag. Granted I've only tried one bag, so hopefully, this isn't a common issue with this product. But it never hurts to be prepared, right? That way you can transfer it and keep it airtight if needed. As far as the value per ounce this brand is just slightly higher price-wise than the same size package that I can purchase at the healthy food store in our little town. Other than those two little notes I'm pleased with this nutritional yeast. For those new to nutritional yeast be aware that this is not the same as yeast you use when you are wanting doughs to rise because it is not a living yeast like those you purchase for baking. However, if you have an issue with candida overgrowth do our own research on how this product will affect you.

love my nooch for quick, easy mac n' "cheese", gives cheesy flavor to anything- so versatile, tasty
I love Judees products, and I love nutritional yeast. And so yes, I love this nooch from Judees. I am not vegan, not even vegetarian but I flirt with both. I love to eat.. everything. I tend to eat a lot of plant based stuff. I am a big fan of making a quick mac n' "cheese" using nutritional yeast (pasta of choice, butter of choice, nooch, salt, pepper, sometimes addins- vegetables, meat, or TVP). Often cheaper than dairy cheese, and I dont always want to consume dairy. Being shelf stable adds a lot of value to me. I know I will always have some on hand. It is a musy have pantry item. And so because I am not vegan, I usually dont bother with fortified nooch (adds in B vitamins), and just go for plain. This product is fortified. I will keep this for use on vegetables or small application meals (anything that can benefit from a little "cheesy" fix). When I make my mac n' "cheese" I tend to use a lot, so I will stick with my regular unfortified nooch.Competitively priced for the size.
