Hohner Special 20 Harmonica, Key of F

I bought a Hohner Special 20 A harp. It is fine. I like the Special 20s: excellent for blowing the blues.

As John Popper said, "It is the Cadillac of Harmonicas." I purchased 6 of them in C, D, G, F, A, and E.

I am a pro harmonica player and needed one of these in a pinch. I am really happy with the tone and weight of the Special 20. I have since recommended this harmonica model to several of my students. Good value.

I have lots of harmonicas (70+) made by 6 different manufacturers (Hohner, Seydel, Suzuki, Tambo Lee Oscar, Easttop, and Hongsheng). I have tried most of the models on the market. I own more Hohner Special 20's (21) than any other single model, because for the past several years they have been the most reliable playing well out of the box. They have needed little or no adjustment of the reed gaps for maximal ease of bending and overblowing. I also like the smooth mouth feel of the coverplates ending below the smooth plastic comb, compared to the somewhat sharp edges of the Hohner Crossover that protrude a little above the comb (love the Crossover sound though).

I like the rich sounds that comes from this harmonica.I'm a working musician and this product works well for me

Why would anyone want to play one of these things? Well that's not true, but I keep asking myself that after 40 years of playing. Amazon is a great place to get the tools I need to keep playing, as I wear out old ones and need to replace the popular one I use, it gets tricky to find the odd keys and after running from music store to store, it's just easier to get these from Amazon, I recently replaced 5 at once some were easy to find at local store but most were not and I was able to pay one shipping charge and get them from all over the country with only one order.Great Job Amazon!!!

Unfortunately this F harp has a screechy rattle on both 7 blow & 8 blow. I haven't gotten a decent F harp in years from Hohner. It's been the same problem on the same reeds each time; a chronic defect. The screech ruins songs, & it's a pain to go through the return process.

Special 20 is well constructed, good tone. Easier to play I think than Marine Band; certainly the construction is good.The key of F is appropriate for playing 2nd position cross-harp in the key of C, especially bluegrass/country styles. This harp (key of F), plus a copy of  Mel Bay's Bluegrass and Country Music for Harmonica (Book & CD)  will get you going (especially if you have some skills on the harmonica already).
