Chick raising game changer
I’m one of those awesome raise chicks in your bathroom people and I hated the heat lamp. Brought out all my anxiety gremlins. I was always relieved when the babies were old enough not to need it. This heater is far superior to a lamp especially because the chicks can control their own body temp by going in and out under it as needed. I put them under it myself on the first day but they didn’t need guidance after that (maybe they didn’t need guidance at all…but…mind gremlins). It is easy to lower and raise, I don’t feel like I’m putting my birds in an involuntary sweat lodge and it appears to be a safer alternative.

Adjustable height
This was perfect for the small brooder. The feathers seemed to really help the little ones feel safe, just like momma would.

Good for baby quail
This worked pretty well for my quail babies but I would attach the feather skirt to the unit with high heat hot glue. The electrical tape provided only held the skirt in place for a few weeks. Otherwise simple to use and can work as a hutch heater for a small Jonny house. I notice at around 6 weeks with mostly adult feathers in the quail kind of hang around it Vs. Cuddle under it. Also recommended to run this under a bed of shavings or sand so the chicks can snuggle. Safe to use.Tip- stick a small “cone of shame” Elizabethan collar on top of the brooder to keep the birdies from roosting and crapping on the top.

Chicks love it but the feathers don't last
I'll never again brood chicks without comfort feathers. Our chicks love them. To the chicks those feathers are mom! It adds a whole level of security and confidence. The feathers aren't too stiff and thick so the chicks can enter and exit from anywhere, not just the open space in the front. That's good because you don't want chicks getting squished in the back and unable to leave if they're getting too hot. No worries, they can come and go anywhere between the feathers. They look so cute poking their heads out to see what's up.The flip side is that the feathers don't last. They get pecked at and pooped on and start falling off in about a week. After two weeks they look pretty sparse. It would be nice if they included a replacement set since chicks need a brooder plate and comfort feathers much longer than just two weeks. We only had six chicks in this batch. I can imagine the feathers would wear off even more quickly with more chicks.

Eggcellent so far!
The media could not be loaded. This is the 3rd time I’ve raised baby chicks, but my 1st time using this brooder heater instead of the scary red fire hazard heat lamp. I sleep peacefully at night with this, not worried I’ll wake up to my house on fire. That alone is priceless. Just the underside gets warm. No concerns at all with use in flammable straw bedding.I’ve had it plugged in and running nonstop the whole week and it’s been great so far. It didn’t come with the top anti-roost cone so I bought it separate but that too was well worth it. My baby chicks seem so much healthier and happier with this brooder. They actually have a warm dark place to go and sleep good. When I used the red heat lamp in the past my chickens looked like exhausted zombies all the time only sleeping for a minute or two at a time. With this heater brooder they zonk out for a while and are happy and lively when they come out. The hard part is I can’t see them all the time. I put the feathers on the brooder and the chicks love it. They peek out the sides. The chicks come and go when they want warmth and to sleep. I have 4 baby chicks that are 1 week old in my video. I don’t think this would be big enough for more than that. Gonna be cramped under there in another week or two as they grow. Overall this was well worth the investment! You won’t regret it.

Good for Brooder
Used for 2 months with my new chicks in our game room, until they were ready for the coop. Heat seemed fine. I did lose 2 chicks not sure if associated with the heat. Chicks huddled under there often; I got the feathers to surround it. Eventually, the 2 chicks I had left would get poop on feathers a lot (month 1.5), so I removed it. They didn’t really use it or need it after that, since it is extremely hot in Texas. Seemed fine. Still is working to major issues. Again, not sure why chicks died, they went under there after they were wet from us removing poop from their butts.

Which piece is eggch
It was confusing to order b/c the pieces were sold separately and the descriptions were not consistent for each part. I ordered the brooder, the cone for top, and the feather skirt. I’d only used my trust B— brooder and was dubious. But the leg spring adjustment is nice once I figured it out. Don’t screw it from top so it’s more disruptive to chicks but quicker and less tendon work! Babies have done well. I wish it was bigger but I guess it’s shopped like one momma hen!
