Incredible inspiring concept art
Great quality print and amazing works from the nier series most of which I had never seen so really happy. Use it every time I make a new piece to inspire and improve.

Wonderful art
I've always liked books on the art of games and the like so when I saw this I wanted to get my hands on it as soon as possible. Glad I did as it made me appreciate the work that goes into the Nier series more.

Books great!!
Filled with beautiful work. Nothing wrong with the book. Unfortunately mine arrived damaged during transit along with the other book it was packaged with.

Great art, ruined by the editing.
As much as I love Nier franchise and its visual style, this book is a huge disappointment. Don't get me wrong, the art itself is great... It's just that literally everything else about this book ruins the art it's presenting and therefore the whole experience. First of all, while there are few pieces with the characters as a focus, Kazuma Koda is a concept artist that's more focused on environments (at least when it comes to Nier,) so most of the images are of the various landscapes from the games. (Pretty much all of them are also finished pieces. Out of the 160 pages, around 4 of them are dedicated to rough drafts/alternate designs, and there's a whole SINGLE page of sketches.) For some, that singular focus might be a bit boring, but that's not the issue here. The problem is that as the theme of the art here is environments... Quite a lot of the pieces are in the landscape orientation, the opposite of the standard vertical orientation of the book they've chosen. So how do you display horizontal art on a vertical page? There are two logical options, you either shrink down the image, losing a lot of detail from the resolution scale-down... Or you let it spread over both pages, losing parts of the art in the gutter of the book. Which of the lesser evils did the editors of this book chose? Somehow, BOTH of them. While there are some outliers that will fill a whole page (or two) most of the art is both sized down AND still not scaled down enough to NOT spill onto the other page. And if losing details of the art in all possible ways wasn't enough, the awkward shapes and sizes of the pieces create a lot of negative space, that's not filled with anything. A third of this book is just white space. Honestly this is the first time where I'm met with so much wasted space in an art book. With some "actual" editing, it could've been used with Author's comments, his thoughts, some behind the scenes tidbits maybe... But this book is lacking in those as well. Most of the pieces don't have any comments at all, just the title. And those that do, are incredibly dry and short. "This is a promotional art I made for a magazine in 2016." "I based this building on a shopping mall from my hometown." "This is art I made for the game's reversible cover." Maybe two or three of them have more than a single sentence said about them (and remember that most have none at all,) with one shining example being the cover art of this book, repeated a few pages in the book itself with a whole TWO complex sentences, five lines long. Honestly... It might be a more worthwhile experience to just go through Kazuma Koda's twitter and enjoy his art digitally.
