The Freight Train of Bluetooth Speakers *by J***5 on Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2017* When I shop for things, I tend to obsess. I don't like choosing the wrong product for my needs, and thus, I do a lot of research. I also tend to pick the most durable, most heavy-duty, functional and well-made things, even if they cost a few extra dollars than the 'popular' item does. So, when I was looking for a Bluetooth speaker (something I never thought I'd need, by the way, but here we are), I was after a few key things:1. Durability in the elements2. Sound quality3. Practicality / long lasting chargeSo began my hunt. I read and researched about a dozen or so different speakers in all price ranges, and quickly decided that criteria #1 above would be no contest: RoamProof seems to have made it their mission to make stuff that can't be killed without a LOT of trying. Knowing that the MacroBoom was water-proof, ruggedized, and able to withstand being run over by a nearly 3-ton vehicle was all I needed to satisfy the first criteria. This thing is hefty and *solid*.For criteria #2, seeing the attention paid to the larger drivers, rubber surrounds, clever bass membrane to create deeper lows, it was an easy choice. After receiving it, I can tell you it's plenty loud, plenty clear, and can turn up quite high without distortion. I recently used it at a birthday party at a picnic area in a regional park. It sat on a picnic table while I walked around with the source, my iPhone, in my pocket, transmitting over Bluetooth, streaming Spotify with no problem. The volume was at about 80%, and it was clear, loud and sounded great. Everyone thought there was a boombox set up; there was no need for one.For #3, I was able to use it a high volume for about 4 and half hours without issue, and it never gave me a low battery warning. I think the batteries add up to about 6000mAh, which is about 3 times the typical smartphone battery. I was able to plug a guest's phone into the speaker for a few minutes to revive their dead phone too - it works as a power bank too. The coup-de-grace: it has a solar panel on it! One that *actually works*. Leaving it in the sun for an afternoon will actually get you a meaningful amount of charge!There is no such thing as a product that does not have room for improvement - if I had to list any cons for the MacroBoom, it would be a minor gripe with the way the screw-cap on the end does not have a way to attach itself to unit. I have not lost it yet in the months I've had it, but I definitely need to keep track of it. The cap is not a critical part; it all works if you don't have it, but it will no longer be waterproof! I would ask that, in the next generation, RoamProof consider a short rubber strap that loops into a cutout in the cap somewhere and loops through a metal loop on the body or something similar.Bottom line: I'm someone who appreciates well-made things, and I try to get the most well-made thing of anything I buy. This is definitely that thing. I highly recommend the MacroBoom! ### ⭐⭐ DEFINITELY not river-worthy. *by S***7 on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2018* DEFINITELY not river-worthy.Okay so I am exaggerating a bit. It can survive small splashes, and even a dip or two. But, I left this in my camel back for the first half of a river trip (I was on an individual tube). I had my camel back on me, or in my lap, so the macroboom was probably in 3 inches of water for maybe 1 hour. AT MOST... When it came time to use the MacroBoom, the only thing that could be heard is the saddening CLICK of electronic circuits turning on (and failing) and the sloshing of water inside the case.This did work for a year, which included beach time (no water) and a river trip on which it never met water a single time (so a non-waterproof speaker would have done fine). So it gets two stars...Here is something I hated about it from the beginning.. In regards to the cap that you have to remove to charge the darn thing:1) place a freaking cable or cord between the main body and the cap. Do you know how many times I thought I was gonna drop that stupid cap? Do you not understand that parts like that have a way of disappearing into another dimension when dropped? Or if not the next dimension, fall into places unnoticed for years? If the speaker is without that cap, it is in no way water resistant.2) At a MINIMUM drill a hole in for us so we can add a cord/cable/string and tie it to the speaker ourselves. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good Speaker, Could Use A Little More Bass *by F***Y on Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2017* I bought this speaker because I'm currently deployed and doing a lot of work outside, which makes me want to listen to music and make it more enjoyable. This wasn't my first choice of Bluetooth speakers, but that's because I didn't find it right away. As fate would have it, the speaker that I initially wanted would not ship out to me, so I went back to shopping. I did a lot of back and forth research across different products, and eventually came upon the MacroBoom. The fact that it's solar-power chargeable, as well as able to take on water and dust and a beating were all enough to convince me.The package took a while to get here, but that's how the deployment mail goes. What really was bad was that the package was crushed. Luckily, the speaker packaging held up under the pummeling the outer box took. I immediately put the speaker to use, and I love it. I do wish it was able to get a little louder, but it's bark is pretty big as is. However, there isn't too much bass from it. It's not a boombox with bass tubes or woofers, and thus it suffers from a lack of boom. Nevertheless, it definitely works for me.
