Discovering Dyscalculia: One family’s journey with a math disability

Discovering Dyscalculia has been the most helpful resource as I have begun learning about dyscalculia, how it affects my son, and what remediation looks like. Laura does a great job of unpacking this topic in an easy to understand and practical way. This book should be everyone’s first stop on their dyscalculia journey!

I sat down one morning with a cup of coffee and read this book in its entirety. This book is well written and clearly communicated. I enjoyed reading about the author's personal experience discovering her daughter's Dyscalculia and about her journey thus far in getting help for this disability. This is a great resource for anyone who is beginning this journey for themselves. I personally have struggled with numbers my whole life and this brought clarity and help for me as an adult. I believe through Laura's work and advocacy, more children and adults will gain the support and help they need to thrive in our world of numbers. I am thankful for this resource and would highly recommend this book!

This is a personal story written by a parent to a dyscalculic child, providing lots of resources and tips for those navigating this neurodiverse journey. It feels so warm, and validating. I don’t write reviews often, but felt compelled to write one for this do not miss book on the subject.

I wish this book was written when I was a child. I am so grateful to find it now to help my own child. Beautifully written and easy to digest.Laura M Jackson leads the reader beautifully through her and her daughter’s story. She provides great resources in the back of the book as well.A must read for parents who have a child with dyscalculia.

This book clearly explains Dyscalculia and how it impacts students. I think some adults will "find themselves" here too. Most of us have heard quite a bit about Dyslexia. However, Dyscalulia was a brand new learning challenge for me to learn about. The journey of this family (this child had persistent, tenacious parents!) is interesting and inspiring! Resources are listed for further study as this book can make you want to learn more about the condition. All parents and educators would benefit from being aware of Dyscalculia.

We are new into our child's diagnosis and were appalled at the lack of resources for Dyscalculia. Most were very technical and found most helpful the blogs written and articles. This book was great and I purchased a second copy for family member close to us. Thank you!

Achei um bom livro, me ajudou com algumas informações e reflexões. Porém, tem muitas partes contando como navegar no sistema educacional americano, por isso, não foi tão útil para mim. No geral, é uma boa leitura, mas pulei muitas partes que não se aplicavam à realidade do meu país. Homeschooling não é a realidade na maioria dos países, especialmente no Brasil, não temos essa opção com facilidade. Além disso, a maioria das crianças exigiria muito mais atenção dos pais nos estudos, o que não é o caso da filha da autora. Recomendo, mas com essas ressalvas.

I brought this book in the hope I would find some helpful information about Dyscalculia and learn from someone else's journey and I found exactly that. The Book is well written with helpful tips along the way plus useful websites and resources at the end.It was nice to read that someone else had experienced the same issues we have.
