The elastic attaches at both edges of the patch and does not cross the eye. They are lightweight, yet opaque and light blocking so that I can use my good eye while convalescing. I am using them for recovery after a vitrectomy for retinal detachment, and they seem durable enough to last for quite some time. The elastic strap is adjustable and large enough when extended to fit my size 7 and 5/8 head without being too tight.
