Absolutely adorable! 💕🤌🏻
Izumi has had a memorable summer, with few hiccups here and there but a great summer nonetheless. She is faring the royal affairs a little better, her bodyguard turned boyfriend Akio spending time with her before he leaves for the academy, and her mother staying with her in Japan. And now her dream of having a family is finally coming true now that her parents have rekindled their romance and a grand royal wedding is in the near future. But then her life starts falling apart as the royal council refuse to accept her parents' engagement, Akio makes some not so great decision, and she has no idea what do with her academic career. Now, it is upon Izumi to get her life on track and make sure that things go as planned. This was the perfect sequel to Tokyo Ever After! When this was first announced I was very sceptical about it but now that I have read it, I am absolutely in love with it! This duology is one of those few YA contemporary books that have zero cringe factors in there, which makes this one of my favourite YA books undoubtedly! There is a love triangle here because of course, but it isn't actually bad. The new love interest is literally the most wholesome character ever and I totally understand Izumi's dilemma because same girl! I still can't choose between the two of them even though Izumi has made her decision. We got more of Shining Twins and they added the charm to the story. Then,of course, the highlight of the book and that is Mak and Hanako's romance and OHMYGOD Y'ALL I NEED THEIR OWN BOOK. @emikojeanbooks ARE YOU LISTENING? Their scenes were peak romance in this book and the way we have been teased with their background story is brutal and I will noy rest until the day I get their book.Just read these books okay? ❤️🤌🏻Thank you so much @panmacmillanindia for sending this across! 💕

Fake dating, unexpected romance and friendships, second chance love, big gestures, true love, royalty
Izumi is the lost princess of Tokyo which no one knew about, not even the crowned prince, her dad. But now she has decided to stay in Japan near her dad and family and her civil servant turned (CUTE, HOT, ADORABLE) bodyguard boyfriend. She has never been the IDEAL PRINCESS Japan was looking for and her NOT SO PERSONAL life choices reflects on her stand as the princess of Japan. She is under constant scrutiny of the press and is often criticized for everything she does. (The way the press TWISTS everything to turn real life into DRAMA is hilarious). And now Izumi has pressure to choose what she wants to study in college and more importantly which college. When her parents are finally getting a SECOND CHANCE at their relationship, the happiness is short lived and gets threatened by the council. As parents and children, we always think of each other’s happiness. While Izumi may be struggling with her own life, she would never let anything stand in between her parent’s love, NOT EVEN HERSELF.If you are one of those people who hated the twin sisters along with Izumi in the first book, well you are in for a treat. And you have another character to love in this story which I WON’T TALK MUCH ABOUT.It is always difficult to change yourself even if it is for love. And when you end up reinventing yourself too much you are no longer the same person. And why does it have to be one person who must change when there are two people involved in a relationship. There should always be a balanced compromise from everyone involved and this book shows that beautifully. This book reminded me more of the royal K-DRAMAS I have watched over the years. It was a PERFECT story with a modern touch to them. And it goes without saying how much I ENJOYED reading it. I was not expecting much from the story, but now I want a THIRD BOOK. The book has everything from fake dating, unexpected romance and friendships, second chance love, big gestures, true love and of course royalty. Also, you can totally read the books as standalone stories. You are given enough to go on with the story without spoiling the first book for you.

Not an enjoyable read
The first book was better. This felt...lacking. I couldn't get into it at first and then that love triangle came up and I skipped over half of it. I just couldn't do it. Akio breaks up with Izumi at the beginning of the book (which felt so out of character for him...though he thought he was doing the right thing?) and leaves for more than half of the book. Not a fan of that, he was my favorite character in the first book. Then Izumi goes on this misguided soul-searching journey because she thinks if she is a better princess, then her parents will be allowed to get married. I liked that Izumi found herself at the book's end and quit doing things because it made others happy and matured a little.BUT I did not like the love triangle. No matter how many times she had to say it, I believe that Izumi wasn't over Akio. I don't believe she ever liked Eriku romantically, you could tell. I think she took Akio back a little too easily. He should have fought for her after breaking her heart!I don't know if this will turn into a trilogy or not, but if it is I won't be eagerly waiting for the next book like I did this one.

Enjoyable sequel with characters to love
I was once again swept up into the imperial life and found Izumi and her parents to be delightful. While I enjoyed Izumi's struggle with who she was and who the world wanted her to be, I was greatly disappointed that one of my favorite characters from the first book was mostly absent from the second. This plot twist then led to the romantic trope I never enjoy became a big part of the story. I had hoped Izumi would make an even harder decision being still so young and having a strong mom as a role model, but the life choice she made created a lighter read. Overall, I loved my time in Japan with Izumi and her family.
