Splat the Cat: What Was That?

Open the flap book - NOT a favorite in my house
Another open the flap book....how do I keep missing that in the descriptions before I buy it? My girls love the Splat the Cat stories, and they love Halloween. I, however, do not like open the flap books, so this book hasn't really been the Halloween hit I thought it would be.Open the flap books are fun for the first few readings, but my girls love to reread books over and over and over again. The flap opening on every single page gets slightly annoying after a few reads. It feels like too much of an interruption to the story, and with my younger daughter (3 1/2), the flaps are difficult for her to lift sometimes, and that results in torn, ripped and awkwardly folded flaps after a few reads.I'm also not a big fan of the story in this one. Most of the book is pages filled with nothing but cheesy sound effects. I prefer books with a stronger storyline or detailed plot. I think my girls do too because they don't pick this one up nearly as often as the other new Halloween books I set out for this year.

7 year old says Thumbs Up
This review was told to me by my 7 year old daughter. "I liked the book because it's scary and my favorite animal is a cat. And what I really like about Splat the Cat is his little mice friend and they actually get along. And even though they are supposed to be chasing each other because cats eat mice and rats".

An annoyingly delightful book
I must admit I am not a big Splat the Cat fan. I feel the stories are mass produced and a bit boring. The art is the only saving grace in my opinion. BUT who cares about my opinion. My children obviously don't. It's December and I am still reading this Halloween themed book with my kids.As an adult I don't like pop up window books that have no theme or purpose to the pop ups. This book is one that falls under this category. Some of the windows are almost the size of the page and it seems like they should have just put the reveal on a new page instead of hiding it under clunky over sized windows. But again... WHO CARES! My kids love it.There are other annoyances. Like Seymour's wailing comes through a gramophone he is sitting on. HOW is that even possible I want to scream... But I don't because my kids are screaming out loud with laughter. Despite so many annoyances, my kids (ages 3 and 5) both love this book. So I have to give it four stars. I see me reading this long into the Winter.

Not for young toddlers
Haven't even read the book. It's too long to hold my young toddler's attention. I thought it would be simpler like a dr. Suess book but it's not. We'll have to hold it for a few years and see if it works then. Disappointed.

My three year old really likes this
This is a great book. It has fun illustrations and is just spooky enough for my three year old. One thing to keep in mind: This book is the large flap style, where the flap is nearly the size of the page. This makes the flaps a little fragile but it wasn't an issue for us. The art is beautiful and the story is a lot of fun. We loved it.

Too many flaps
It really is a cute book but there are a TON of flaps. It’s almost too many. My toddlers were very distracted by them every time we read it. Maybe it won’t be so distracting as they get older.

This is another cute book about the adventures of Splat the Cat and his mouse friend Seymour. This book is about Splat and his cat friend trick-or-treating at a haunted house--which of course, turns out to not be haunted. It's a pop-up book and has very nice pictures. I bought it for my five year old, but my seven and eight year old also enjoyed me reading it to them.

I love Splat the Cat!
I loved this book. After moving to France two years ago, I was asked to help young French children learn English. Whilst looking through the Internet for good teaching aids, I came across this book. It is the first Splat book I have bought and I think it is great and so do the children. The books are well written, hilarious, and the illustrations hold the interest of the children. I recently bought Merry Christmas Splat and both the children and I loved! I shall be trawling through the Internet for more Splat the Cat books.

This is an American book and what I would term a noisy book for Halloween. Of the 3 books I bought my 2 year old grandson, it is the one I thought he would like least however he absolutely loved it and we have to read it over and over again!

Ok as a Halloween treat, but not a classic.
Almost 3 year old nephew liked it, but I thought the flaps too big, open when you turn the page so spoil the surprise, basically another page glued to each page.

An ok book, didn't like the flaps on it, story is a bit average so I wouldn't recommend it, some children may enjoy it though
