Works great
Build quality is not that great, but it works perfect. Easy to setup and use. For the price I paid for this product, I am very happy so far.

Works great for a reasonable price.
It is LO (light operates). When there is no object blocking the beam, the relay is energized. It can be set to NO or NC. I use the contact in series with garage door safety sensor so that the garage door cannot be closed if my hatchback trunk is raised open. The only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is there's no LED indicator to tell if the beam is blocked or at least an LED light to tell that the transmitter and the receiver are powered up.

Hit & miss
The first set I bought worked fine, then bought another set.. completely garbage. Exchanged for another set and this new set partially works. I needed to install the receiver on a horizontal position while the other piece is on a vertical position in order to get them see each other... and of course it doesn't work if I put the cap on.

usage of infared beams
I am building a poultry trap nest, and the doors are opened and closed by birds walking thru infared beams. The distance is only about 18 inches, and for this to work at this distance, the lens of each side must be reduced to about 2mm square. I do with this black masking tape. The activation of the relay is only while the bird is passing the beam, therefore we use it in conjunction with a delay timer relay, which begins when the beam is tripped.

Works great
Works great as a warning for anyone or anything that breaks the beam.

Works great with a simple mod.
T hese things are working fine for me but I did learn a few things in the process. The main thing is the why of why they don't work in close proximity (which makes testing them harder). Even though the cases appear black, at close range the case of the receiver is transparent to the IR beam from the transmitter. At 3 feet I could not get the receiver to react even if I turned its back to the transmitter. I solved that by wrapping the receiver in aluminum tape except for the indent over the sensor. After that it worked very well. The other thing I learned was that it is difficult to get the rubber oring into place between the two halves of the 'eggs'. Since I am operating indoors, I just did without them. Now I have the devices creating a 3 sided square of 'do not enter' for my dogs. Two mirrors and an ultrasonic discourager included. Works great.-----Paul-----

Work well
These have a good range and do a good job. I use them as a 'safety' for my front driveway gate. I placed them in a 2" square aluminum tube to help block stray IR and protect them from flying objects [ wind storms and the occasional hurricane, like IAN]. Unfortunately, over the years, I found these last about 2+ years, when either the IR source or the receiver/relay will fail. [This is my 3rd set] Just can't find anything that works as well as these do at a reasonable price.
