For those of us with fat calf muscles, it saves having to cut down the sides to prevent said calf being strangled by the top of the socks. The thinner material obviously takes up less room and feels more like the rest of my socks room-wise in my boots. Upon opening the package they looked thicker than the usual sock but they are a lovely fit, I'm touching on a size 11 so went for the larger size. I've worn and washed these now several times and they look as good as new. I've even had them on with leaky shoes and they have no signs of getting any holes in them. I will definitely build up a collection of these and will now recommend to all that it's definitely worth spending the extra, you'll only have to do it once!
