So far it stopped the dripping..
So far it stopped the dripping. Installation was easy and simple! Time will tell if this KOHLER GENUINE part how much it could last. It works for the following KOHLER's trim (in the picture)

Works great - once you finally remove the old one!
Instructions were easy to follow, and the unit installed very easily. Just beware if you have hard water, as that will seal the old in pretty tight. I've seen lots of removal tips, but the only thing that worked for me was to torque it loose with a BIG screwdriver. Apply pressure right at the seal - anyplace else and you can bend the metal pipes behind the wall.

Works but a tiny bit larger than the original
Simple install that solved my shower leak problem and saved me a couple hundred dollars in plumber fees. It was ever so slightly larger than the original which made the faucet handle collar a bit more difficult to slip on but a little oil on the inside of the collar solved that issue.

Solved The Problem
I hate Kohler products, but since I didn't want to rip the the shower out I had to fix the fixture the house came with. Five showers a day for ten years isn't bad for a fixture. Don't bother calling the Kohler help-line, Bambi will just tell you to replace both the valve and the proportioner. I ordered the valve first and that stopped the drip. After a few minutes of thinking things out I installed it 180 degrees backwards which caused the hot to come on first instead of the cold. This seems to be the only way you can screw it up. The screws that attached the faceplate were difficult to screw in as if the threads weren't fully tapped. I used plumbers grease to help preserve the O-Rings and so far the drip is gone. It was much easier to buy it from Amazon than put up with the dumb looks I always get at Lowe's. If I was remodeling I would install a Delta or Moen fixture; my Kohler kitchen faucet only lasted about five years. I give it five stars because it was a cheap and easy fix.

I Have a Love/Hate Relationship With This Part
01/30/15 UPDATE =============== Since the original review, I've since replaced the mixer cap in our other two showers. I've grown to have a serious love/hate relationship with this part. I love it because it constantly fixes the problem where you barely get hot water. I hate it because the failure rate (especially in showers that ARE NOT used often) seems to be astronomically high -- unquestionably, I've now spent north of $200 on replacement mixer caps and pressure balance units over the past decade. In my most recent replacement, the failing cap literally fell apart as I unscrewed it from the brass valve housing, just like last time. Unbelievable. I can now safely say it is worth keeping one of these and a pressure balance unit on-hand -- there's a near-100% chance you will need them at some point. =============== ORIGINAL REVIEW =============== I was having an(other) issue with one of our Kohler shower faucets where hot water would only be dispensed if the handle was turned to the end of its' range of travel, at which time the overall pressure dropped significantly. After cracking open the handle assembly and making some tweaks to the anti-scalding collar (to no avail) I decided to order both this mixer valve and the pressure balance cartridge I had replaced in two other Kohler assemblies in our home. Once the parts came (thank you, Prime), I pulled the original mixer valve out and it, more or less, came apart in my hands. I re-seated the O-rings in the pressure balance cartridge and reaffixed the mixer cap to the brass housing. I turned the water back on for a test and sure enough, it was working perfectly now AND with better pressure than before. Bonus. Ten minutes later I had everything reassembled and re-caulked. Job done. I'm considering keeping one of these as a spare since the guts of these Kohler fixtures seem to fail with such regularity. If you're having any sort of issue with your Kohler fixture, chances are it's either this or the pressure balance cartridge. Buy them both and you (probably) can't go wrong. I'm on the handy side, so replacing this for me was not a big deal. If the thought of turning off your water supply or getting a little wet scares you.. best to have a friend handy who has done this kind of thing before :)

Factory product. Perfect fit.
Product is as described and is a direct factory manufactured piece from Kohler. Fixed the issue I was having with a 15 year old cartridge. Slow drip for the last few months. Arrived quick and with all the related parts and extra seals and lubricant.

Good product !!
It took me a month to install this product. Although I watched how to do it in Youtube, at first, I was still hesitant to install it because, I thought it would be complicated... I almost called a plumber. But it was a very simple installation.... I even learned to assemble and disassemble this product, using the old one that I replaced. As a matter of fact, the old one was not really broken... the leaking was caused by the displacement of the washer for the cold water and for the hot water not coming out all the time, it was the spring that was displaced. I cleaned the whole unit, greased the springs and washers and it's all good !! But of course, I am now using the new one.
