The Last Promise

I got a wonderful deal on a very clean and (nearly) perfect book. The price was excellent and the book arrived SO quickly. Hoping for opportunity to deal with "Cranberry Lake Technologies" in the near future!!

A very good read from Richard Evans. I remember years ago reading The Christmas Box to my husband and son as they painted my son's room. I read it out loud to them, so it was a quiet captive audience. I ran through all the emotions while reading, even crying, then feeling elated at the end, as all his books give me great pleasure reading, and seem to speak to me just what I need to hear when I need to hear it. I'm now reading The Perfect Day. I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist, female, 63. I have a small family, but love them so profoundly! All of his books think the way I do. Translated, going back in time to when there was violence, but not like today, and there was sexual content, but not like the scandalous content life dishes to us on a daily basis. I like the way he eludes to sensitive subjects, and lets the reader figure out their own ending. I, too, have always wanted to write. I took many classes in Journalism, however, Psychology won in the end. When I retire I will write a book. Perhaps a novel. I hope to be even one quarter as good as the books Richard Evans writes. I live in Northern CA, and attended USF. Please keep the good books coming! I think I have read all of them.

Love any books written by RPE! Im sure it will not disappoint.

Last summer my husband and I visited Italy, so it was fun to recognize the names of Italian places, towns, architecture, scenery, customs, and the people described in The Last Promise, also Vernal, and Park City, Utah, these are places I am familiar with, and could picture them in my mind as the story moved along. I liked the small amount of Italian vocabulary, along with its translation; not too much nor too little.I am always up for a good love story, and like Ellen/Eliana in the story, my own love story is a constant joy to me.Evans keeps his love stories clean, and his vocabulary is without objectionable words and phrases, as if he were writing stories his mother and children could read.He keeps moving the story along -- without inserting too much fluff and description for readers to skim through quickly, in order to get back to the story line.For Forty years I lived in a large California house of Italian style architecture, the house surrounding a large courtyard, with striking Italian tile inside and out. I was comfortable reading a story that took place in an old Italian Villa in Italy.

Mauriizio, a very handsome, Italian gentleman attracted an American Girl, Eliana. They're unquenchable desire, consummated in marriage. They returned to Italy, where Maurizio went about his life as a traveling salesman, who was gone for long periods of time. He continued to satisfy his needs while away and wasn't particularly kind & loving with Eliana. Ross Story came into her life when he acquired a room rental from Maurizio. He made Eliana feel new beautiful because he was polite & thoughtful of the needs of her & her asthmatic son, Alessio. He played football with Alessio, while his Father brushed him off claiming he was tired. He would promise to catch up on his next time home. I think that a person would need to read the book to find out how this book tells the Reader a good experience to be learned by neglect of basic principles much can be lost.t

The best part about this story is the way the author portrays Italy and the lifestyle of the people. The scenery is spectacular and there is imagery all woven into the story. I believe that Eliana and Ross live too recklessly as they continually put themselves in each other's company so often in the beginning of the story. Mauricio is a terrible husband and father because of adultery and negligence. It just seems like there should have been a way to let Mauricio see the error of his ways without all of the very risky behavior of Ross and Eliana.

This author is a good writer. His books are sometimes loosely based on someone's life, as this one is. He is able to weave a beautiful tale from their story. His writing is smooth, no wasted words, just lots of story. I don't always enjoy fiction, especially light love stories, but this has some meat to it. The protagonists are both interesting and have a full life, and they happen to come together and start liking each other. I enjoyed it. It kept me reading and turning pages to see what would happen. Through thick and thin...it has a good ending.

It was well written. Richard Paul Evan's is one of my favorite writers. He knocked it out of the ballpark with this book.
