On the fence with which smart switch brand to go with? I went with Leviton and have no regrets.
I went all-in with Leviton smart switches last year and have had no regrets, they have been flawless. I have around 20 devices installed, a mix of switches, dimmers, and outlets. I started with a couple of outlets for the holiday decorations in 2017 and just kept adding after that. The main reasons I went with Leviton smart devices and continue to stick with them:1) No hub and uses Wifi to connect2) 3-way switches and dimmers3) Automate and create schedules4) Looks and works like a regular switch5) Can buy these online and local hardware stores6) Leviton is a reputable company7) Different colors to match8) Compatible with both Android and iOS9) Compatible with both Google Home and Alexa10) Compatible with IFTTT11) Reliable!I like quick reviews but read on if you want a thorough one.1) No hub and uses Wifi to connect - Using a hub made no sense to me. I was never a fan of Z-wave, Zigbee and other less popular communication protocols. And buying a hub put more upfront costs, which in my mind, made it more of a commitment once you bought a hub - no way was I going to do that! Many of us already have wifi using tcp/ip in their homes - why reinvent the wheel? I have over a hundred wifi connections on the same network, probably around 50 smart-devices and have not had any problems. Anyone on the fence with Leviton, I suggest buying a plug-in outlet to try it out. You can then install the app for free and follow the wizard to get the outlet connected to your wifi. This will get you acquainted with the app features, including Schedules and Activites.2) 3-way switches and dimmers - My home has 3 3-way switches so whomever I went with needed to have this in their arsenal. The switch was as easy to install as the 2-way because it's the same switch. Every switch or dimmer is 3-way compatible. You just use the extra post and pick up a "remote" switch also from Leviton. I was surprised that few manufacturers at the time offered this.3) Automate and create schedules - Smart switches are all about automating and making our lives easier, maybe even saving some money. I have schedules for sunset and sunrise, a "Goodnight" activity that anyone in the house can run to turn off all the lights. I set it up to keep under-cabinet lights on - pretty slick! I can turn on all the outdoor lights with one button if I want. But I don't have to since they are automated to turn off and on at sunrise and sunset.4) Looks and works like a regular switch - To me a light switch should look like a light switch. I am not a fan of the switches on the market that need instructions to use. I need my older family to be able to come up over and be able to turn the lights on without being nervous.5) Can buy these online and local hardware stores - It was great being able to go into my local hardware store and buy these. It was even better to be able to buy online and save some money.6) Leviton is a reputable brand - I was already familiar with Leviton as I replaced many of their standard switches that I installed back in 2009 when I bought my home with these smart switches. It helped to know the wiring that was behind the wall plates but my point is this is not a company that sprouted recently with funding from over-eager investors. I am confident they understand the market and know what they are doing.7) Different colors to match - This was not a show-stopper but I had some rooms where I had black switches to match the decor. I was thrilled when I found Leviton had covers in black. They included White and Almond with some of their switches at no extra cost but I have only used white or black.8) Compatible with both Android and iOS - We use Android and iOS in our household and I wanted everyone to be able to use the apps.9) Compatible with both Google Home and Alexa - I have to admit that I am a late bloomer in this area. I like knowing it is compatible but have not used much. I do have an Andriod phone and occasionally use the voice command to turn Leviton devices on/off.10) Compatible with IFTTT - If you don't know what this is, you are not alone. Basically, this gives you more control and automation. It allows other smart-devices to turn your lights on or off based on an event.11) Reliable! - I have had no issues. Anytime I have turned on the app, I have been able to connect and turn lights off or on or run an activity. The hardware has been just as reliable.

Great device, but installation is not what you think!
Overview:Love this dimmer switch! I bought two with mates for 3-way application. Using your smartphone or alexa you can turn on individual lights or groups of lights that you can mix and match as you like. If you have your whole house on these switches, you can tell them to turn off at the same time. If you have dimmable bulbs, you can tell that particular switch to go to a certain dimness.I already love these over Lutron dimmers because when you tell it that you have LED's on the app, the range of brightness is greatly increased. They dim much better than a slide-toggle switch from Lutron.Installation:Unfortunately for me, I didn't really believe or trust the instructions and thought I was just replacing an in-kind 3-way switch and thought the wiring would basically be the same. Boy was I wrong! It took me about 4 hours to figure out what I was doing wrong. This is not an ordinary 3-way switch and is not even closely wired the same! Basically for 3-way operation, both sides of the circuit need a neutral, hot and traveler, but this not the case with a typical 3-way setup. Usually only one side has a neutral. I was freaking out about this because I missed my return window. BUT since this is not a normal 3-way switch, it's easy to get the wires you need.In my boxes I had power coming in, light circuit going out and 3-wire going to the other switch. The common (white) from the other switch was jumpered to the hot (load) of the light for power feed and the neutral was ganged together. So what I did was use the 3 wires going to the other switch to make my connections. Instead of a common and two travelers, you now make one wire hot, one wire neutral, and the last wire the traveler. I cut the common to load connection and used the white wire (previously joined with the load wire to the lights) as the neutral run. The load line to the lights was connected as the load. The neutral from the lights was already ganged as neutral in the box. Once I realized this is what it took to get a neutral to the opposite switch, it worked flawlessly. So, throw everything you have learned about 3-way switches out of the window and start from a blank slate. Figure out where your wires are going. Disconnect everything if necessary and get some long jumpers to test continuity of disconnected ends of each conductor so you know what is connected and what is not. Then realize you need to wire hot, neutral and traveler to both switches in a bus configuration (i.e. always on), not a switched configuration.Operation:Most of the extra settings including bulb type are set through the Leviton app. It's integration with Alexa is funny. You can say commands like "turn on abc lights," "Dim abc lights to 50%," or "turn off abc lights." However if you group lights together to make a "scene" the "turn off" capability is not there. For scene's you always turn "on" a scene. So you can say "turn on xyz lights", but you can't say "turn OFF xyz lights." However, you can make a scene called "lights off" or "goodbye" and say "turn on xyz lights off" or "turn on goodbye" if you program the scene to turn off your lights. So if you're controlling independent lights, which is always an option even if you are using scenes, the "turn off" capability is there, but not when you group lights together and want to control them at the same time. You basically pre-program the scenes to the on/off and brightness setting to your liking, so you're always turning those "on"Unfortunately these nuances are not well documented anywhere, so I hope they help someone.EDIT: I discovered how to turn off lights with Alexa. Don't create a scene in Leviton, but discover the individual devices in Alexa and group them into rooms. Then you can tell Alexa to turn a room or "all lights" on or off. Only devices that are grouped into rooms will respond to the "turn off" command. It also works individually. It just doesn't work if you program a scene in Leviton. If you're not the least bit comfortable tackling a moderately challenging electrical puzzle, please get an expert (engineer or diy handyman) for this. I've heard on message boards that many electricians won't even be able to install it. I did miswire it, but didn't blow anything up, thankfully. I think they build it to not blow up based on a miswire. But if you don't seek professional help, you may never get it working. My second switch pair took 1 hour to install, but only because I had to change 7 other switches to decora style and re-wire accordingly, but I did it right the first time that time and also because I drew out the circuit ahead of time. Also, Leviton has excellent customer support and very sharp people to help you install. They can pretty much figure out your wiring based on what you tell them and tell you how to wire it.I'm quite pleased with this upgrade. I came from the X10 world and it's nice to have the Alexa and smartphone integration without having to pay for additional hardware.

Works great, pain to install
These work wonderfully, just like it says on the box. Easy to connect to Wifi, easy to control. Only thing is setup was a nightmare. I had an experienced smart home electrician come in to install and he took a long while figuring out how it works (he is more used to Lutron Caseta than this, to be fair). Takes up quite a bit of room in the outlet box so in my 3-gang situation, was hard to make everything fit, and would have a helluva time putting more than one in a box. Great for setting up schedule to make people think you're home when you're on holiday (i.e. set to come on a sunset). App could be more intuitive but overall not too bad. Also, no real time-lag issues when controlling via app (even though I read that theoretically WiFi ones should be more finicky than ones that are controlled via a hub such as Lutron Caseta). In hindsight, Lutron Caseta might have been easier to install and easier for 3-way/4-way controls (since their "Pico remotes" need no wiring, just cap off wired in 2nd switch location and fit the remote "over" it). But this Leviton one looks sleeker and friendlier whereas the multi-button Lutron Caseta looks complicated.

Best wi-fi switch out there
After testing a dozen different wi-fi switches from various manufacturers and resellers, this is by FAR the best one I've found. (It's also the most expensive - go figure!) I've installed over 20 of these around the house and plan to continue adding them. :)+Most important - works on both 2GHz and 5GHz networks with no additional hardware required+LED indicator is exceptionally well thought out and is extremely helpful throughout the installation process (and during troubleshooting where required)+Works with Google assistant no issues, also works with IFTTT+Installation and setup are as good or better than any other device out there+The app is specific to Leviton and is much better than the "shared" app that many other manufacturers re-brand and include; from basic config, adding devices to rooms, setting schedules, and even device firmware updates, the Leviton app is excellent+Leviton also provides access through the My Leviton website - for more advanced setup and config, I find this easier than working on the mobile app-The instructions aren't great (2-way and 3-way wiring instructions found in the box are wrong; follow the wiring diagram provided with the remote switch instead)-Minor issues in early versions of the app seem to be improving

Bueno, a secas

Rocker is terrible, LED indicators look cheap and blurry, but otherwise it's decent
The smart functionality is quite good, and links with Samsung SmartThings. The LED brightness indicator looks really cheap and blurry. I have other Levitin dimmers with LED brightness indicators that are sharp and crisp, but this looks like a toy.The worst part of the whole thing is the dimmer rocker. It pops out of place if you touch the very top or the very bottom if you touch in the middle of the rocker it's okay though, but not perfect. If the backplate is too tight or too loose to the right edge of the switch, it impacts the rockers' feel; for how much this costs, I expected better quality. The instructions also aren't very clear. In the 3-way diagram, the remote goes in the line box, and has wire #1 feeding it, marked with tape; that's fine. But the dimmer in the load box is also labeled the same, #1 with tape, but that is not the same wire, it's actually the load wire.
