Well made and do the job brilliant for teaching the kids how to use a compassAnd the whistle is very loud I had to hide it though as the kids wouldn’t stop blowing it in the house

Bought as helping with beaver/cub/scout group. Whistle has so far been the most useful.

I am giving it a 1 star rating for the simple reason that it's unreliable in pointing north. The arrow constantly gets stuck and you need shake it to get it going again. I didn't trust it one bit.I don't tend to be overly negative but when an item doesn't perform it's intended purpose adequately it is a bad item.I am returning it and seeking out a compass that works all of the time, instead of every now and then.

It not a good compass try another one instead. It looks nice but it sticks and you will need to tap it witch is not what you want from a compass.

The media could not be loaded. When I started looking for a compass, I read reviews for them all. Pretty much every compass has reviews saying it doesn't point North. Figuring that every compass can't be broken, I bought this one (since it comes with a bonus whistle). I also bought a few others to test with.After some testing, I'd say that most of the compasses do actually work, but that they're very sensitive to nearby objects which will distort (or completely change) the direction they're pointing. If you ensure there's no metal or magnets around, they will point in the right direction. This is harder than it sounds nowadays. Everyone has their phone with them, often in hand, which will affect the direction the compass points in.Even just sitting the compass on a table with metal legs will render the compass effectively useles. I've attached a video where I show I slid the compass around on my glass top table with metal legs, and you can clearly see how the metal in the table affects the arrow. Outside of the metal frame, the arrow changes to point directly at the table leg, inside the frame it gets stuck as it is pulled toward the frame and the leg, and as it exits the frame again, it points back at the leg. Note that North is actually behind me in this video (i.e. the bottom of the video is North). There's also no trickery in this video, nothing magnetic about the table or anything.TLDR: Yes, compasses work, if you keep them away from metal and magnets such as your phone, headphones and furniture etc.
