It is time to cut the cable.
I live in a suburb quite far from the city and many of the broadcast station antennas. I purchased the GE 29884 antenna a couple of weeks ago from Amazon. Along with the antenna, I purchased a PCT 4 Port Cable TV/HDTV/Internet amplifier (model PCT-MA2-4P) just in case I need it. I have been trying to "cut the cable" and stop paying expensive cable TV fees for even local basic television stations. In addition to the fees, my cable company switched to a system requiring cable TV boxes that you rent from them for $6/month per box. I have tried other powered indoor antennas and have had miserable experiences with them. Few channels could be scanned and the picture quality was dismal, or heavily pixelated, especially in the daytime hours. The few stations that I could pick up were often unwatchable. So back to cable I went. I decided to try the GE 29884 antenna based on the reviews I read on Amazon. The antenna comes in a fairly small box labelled as Pro Outdoor/Attic Mount Antenna. The installation booklet is small with tiny "mice" type. So you might need to scan in the booklet in order to be able to zoom in on the text and illustrations. All the parts are nicely packaged and are easily identified in the instruction manual. A count of each part type is also given, Prior to installation it helps to layout all the parts including the nuts and screws, the reflector rods, dipole antenna parts, main mast, mounting parts, etc. The installation can be a bit tricky, if you follow the manual. However is you do a search on "GE 29884 antenna assembly", YouTube videos can be found that simplify the assembly process a great deal. It took me about a half an hour to assemble the antenna. One nice thing is that rubber end caps were provided to cap off the dipole rods. The antenna definitely seems to be a quality product. I mounted the antenna in the attic, as high as possible using the provided J-mount mounting hardware and supplied M5 bolts and nuts. I disconnected the coaxial cable from the cable TV provider, and connected it to the antenna's connector located on the main mast. Using a bedroom TV, I then selected "antenna" as the input, and performed a channel scan. A total of 106 channels scanned. Most were crystal clear. Perhaps 3 or 4 were pixelated. Sure many of the channels are trash or of no interest to me (shopping channels, religious, languages I don't speak, etc) but many great channels came in beautifully including all the local channels and sub-channels, movie channels, retro, public, etc. A few audio-only channels were picked up. And I didn't have the amplifier connected. I did wire up the amplifier simply because a signal splitter attenuates the signal from the antenna as you feed the signal to multiple TVs. The 4-port amplifier boosts the signal going to each TV. So far, I've had the antenna for a week and I have not been disappointed. All I can say is "bye bye cable TV company". It is time to cut the cable. The antenna and amplifier will pay for itself in a month or two. Update: 6 weeks later: This antenna works like a charm. I have cut the cord, get no more monthly cable bills, and could not be happier.

Great Value In a Surprising Compact Antenna
Antenna was well packaged and arrived in good condition. Lots of parts that need assembly, but take your time. It's not hard, but the instructions are not very detailed and the parts are not specifically indicated in the instructions, so you have to figure it out. There is a video that is helpful, but actually leaves some of the washers out, and if you follow the video you will have left over washers. Just know that there are no extra parts in the parts bag. The straight antenna aluminum tubs that insert into the main frame of the antenna seem very tight as the center of the tube nears the frame. Look closely, and you will see the antenna tube is crimped in the middle. The hole on both sides of the frame appear oval in shape, and the aluminum tube needs to be rotated slightly to align with the frame (the crimped part of the aluminum tube with the oval hole in the frame). Push the antenna tube through the hole and out the other side until the tube is centered in the frame. Then turn the tube a quarter turn to lock it in place. There are twelve of these tubes so take your time, and make sure all of the tubes ends are aligned. The other aluminum antenna parts are easy to attach with screws provided. Attach the stepped mount to the antenna frame and insert the U-bolt and screw on the wing nuts. Assemble the pole and base with the two remaining long screws with washers and nuts. Use the two bottom holes if you need to rotate the mounting pole. My antenna is mounted in my attic to a 2x4 cross support. The mounting plate is more than 4 inches long so I used stainless steel cable ties which you can see in the pictures. I used two 12 inch cable ties together on each side for the attachment, and used a cable tie gun to tighten them up. I pointed the antenna in the general direction of my two VHF local channels ABC & CBS which are 36 degrees apart and the reception is excellent. All my other channels are UHF and they are spread over an additional 51 degrees to the north, and again the reception is excellent. Altogether I am receiving 38 channels, which includes all major networks ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and PBS. The GE antenna is a passive antenna, so I added the RCA Digital Signal Amplifier for $33.15. The GE Antenna was reasonably priced at $38.98 and gets excellent reception with amplifier. Also make sure you are using at least RG6 coaxial cable. I had a section of RG59 cable that some cable installers had used years ago which I had to locate and replace because the reception was poor. I started to blame it on the antenna until I checked the cables and found the problem. Would highly recommend the GE Antenna and the RCA Amplifier because of thew reasonable cost and the great outcome. This antenna replaced a $90.00 ChannelMaster Flat antenna with an amplifier built-in that just quit working after two years. Very satisfied with this package.

Great solution for elderly family member. works well! horrible instructions however.
Over the past year or so, my 77 y.o. elderly mother has been starting to struggle with dementia. she has gotten to the point that she normally only watches 2-3 channels max. She was using directv and we were getting frustrated with it going out frequently. I have an outdoor HDTV antenna that i put up around 2018 or so, and haven't had any issues. I figured i would order this, along with a pre-amp because we are about 62 miles from the broadcast towers. (rural area). i put this in the attic, pointed towards the broadcast towers, hooked up the pre-amp and ran the cable. immediately, received around 20 channels! Channels even worked during rain/wind/ and cloud cover. the included instructions are horrible, so you will have to go over to youtube for videos to show you how to assemble this antenna. been using it for a couple weeks with no issues. main part is plastic, so i'm not very confident it would last very long outside, however the documentation seems to hint that it's been designed for outdoor mounting, i just personally wouldn't do it. you can get coax cable, and the pre-amp here on amazon. i used a RCA brand preamp, i have one personally and it works well with my channel master antenna. it's completely ridiculous to pay 100.00 a month and up for TV service. best thing about this, it's a one time expense (cost of antenna/cable/pre-amp) and your done! never have to pay for it again. cons are you lose your dvr and so forth, but the cost savings far outweigh the negatives. go ahead and order this one, it worked out great for us! reception will vary of course (depending on terrain and how high up the antenna is mounted). side note, i contacted our local cable tv provider for a quote for cable/DVR service for 2 rooms. i was quoted around $170.00 a month. current base package with directv (2 rooms and dvr) was costing $110.00 a month. pretty much a no-brainer here folks. update 3/27/25*** antenna continues to work well, i would highly suggest you mount this in attic inside, the body of antenna is plastic and the sun will destroy it probably in 3 years or so. granted there is some slight signal loss, but pre-amp seems to have taken care of that part my 77 year old mother with dementia enjoys OTA tv, and remains calm and content for the most part. small price to pay to have your loved one battling a terrible illness.

BIG YES!! This GE antenna gave me 106 channels with perfect pictures!!
I decided to buy a good antenna for my new 65" LG OLED, and this GE 29884 antenna received 106 channels in Orlando with pitcure perfect quality!! WOW! I located the GE in the attic of my one-story house and hope the plastic parts hold up and don't get brittle in the summers when the attic temperatures get up to 110+ degrees during the summer days! Time will tell. While the instructions are not well done, I found it fairly east to assemble...but I'm very handy. I had been using a $35 flat plastic antenna that worked fairly well, but was unattractive hanging from the ceiling vent. I bought a $66 electronic box antenna on Amazon due to 90 "5-star reviews" but it was a total joke and only received 20 crappy channels. I almost ordered a high quality Channel Master $149 antenna, but found out that I receive every important local channel with this small $39 GE 29884, and was actually shocked it was so amazing!

This Antenna ACTUALLY WORKS!!!!
Holy crap this is a great Antenna, seriously! I have bought a couple of the little dinky electric ones because I thought "It's electric, it's got to work better than my dad's old antenna style antenna" I have to tell you, honestly, none of the little electric ones have ever really worked for me. They pick up a channel or two and not consistently, the weird graphic artifacts and the sound going in and out, it always just led to major frustration and finding a streaming alternative. So I decided to give this thing a chance and boy am I happy, I hooked it up to my TV in my metal work shop and I get 43 super sharp and clear HD channels out of the 45 it picked up. I am beyond happy with this thing and that never happens.

Gets great reviews but I was disappointed....
We have a lake cabin that's out in the middle of nowhere - about 60 miles away from the stations that I wanted. This antenna had great reviews, and my existing rotating antenna broke - so I thought I'd try this fixed-mount. Didn;t pull in near the stations the old one did, so I bought the upgraded model of that one and got even more stations that I was getting previously. I kept this one to use in the city in the event of extended cable/internet outages.

Gained 60 Channels Unamplified vs. Indoor Flat Panel Amplified Antenna
I previously picked up a $10 flat panel-style indoor amplified antenna here on Amazon and while it did much better than my old RadioShack antenna, it left much to be desired. It was able to pull 37 channels, but only half of them had 3/5 bars signal and a handful 4 bars at best. Several major stations experienced pixelation issues (granted I am 35+ miles away from nearest broadcast tower). The antenna was also an eyesore next to my new 55" television and entertainment center, so I was determined to find a better solution without having to subscribe to cable service. I endured buckets of sweat to install this attic/outdoor antenna in my attic— pointed and positioned geographically the same but roughly 10 feet higher than where the panel antenna had been mounted in my living room. I strongly recommend you have someone assist you with the install. I did this by myself and it was very difficult to juggle everything, tiptoe across the beams in the attic, hold in place and do the mounting. Needless to say, it was definitely worth the effort because with ZERO amplification I was able to pull an astounding 97 channels (almost all of which had 5/5 bars...only a handful with 3 or 4 bars). The basic package for available cable services only has 125-150 channels, so picking up 65-75% that many— at no monthly cost— is pretty amazing. NOTE: although this antenna is advertised as "whole home ready," you WILL experience signal loss if you use the antenna with any kind of splitter. This is the case with virtually any kind of coaxial infrastructure. When I connected the antenna to my 8-way splitter, I lost 1 channel entirely, and almost all the channels lost at least one bar in signal quality. Additionally, since poor weather can degrade the quality even further, I will be getting an amplified splitter to compensate for any signal loss, and this should bring me back up to 5/5 bars for the whole house. Both the assembly and the install were dead simple— I recommend first reading the instructions start to finish, then watching the instructional video available here on Amazon. Also, make note of all the washer and bolt sizes before you actually start to use them, as there are specific reasons and purposes for the different sized parts. My only complaint is the gray mounting bolts did not drive very well— I used an impact drill and only 2 of the 4 bolts were able to drive all the way into the wood. I attempted all four and two of them protrude about an inch. It looks very tacky, but nobody goes into the attic every day so I have moved on with my life. In hindsight, I recommend ditching the mounting bolts and just sourcing thick and long flathead screws. The antenna is not heavy but you will need more than one screw to maintain stability for the mount. On a final note I would probably not install this antenna outdoors because much of the body is manufactured plastic and UV/weather damage would not be kind to its durability. For attic installations it's perfect. Overall, this is a very valuable and well-engineered antenna. It would be a better deal against competing antennas if it was $10 cheaper; however, for as many channels with excellent quality from a major brand, you really can't go wrong with this purchase.

works very well.
I have had several different types of antennas in the past 10 to 15 years. They all worked ok. I got used to the pixel and the cutting out altogether. The last one would work well one day, then the next, not so good. It was time to replace it. I must say this ant works the best I have ever had. receiving 65 channels, all crystal clear. No cutting out. It is worth the money. It takes some assembling. Instructions are better than most. At first, it seems a little overwhelming. Keep in mind there's no cable. also, it is suggested to install a High Frequency, Ground Block, not included. My broadcast station are about 55mils away. i live in Melbourne fl and stations are located in Orlando.

Great antenna for the price - works perfect!
So pleased with this! Assembled easily, took 5 mins to hook up in the roof cavity - picture perfect - don’t know why it took so long for me to get around to doing this - so much better than rabbits ears, that’s for sure!

Requires full assembly, excellent reception.
Requires full assembly, instructions are reasonable but not superb. The hardware used to assemble the antenna is very small (3mm) and no spares are provided. The entire installation can be done with a Leatherman I’ve you have a pre-existing pole to mount the antenna on. Build quality is good. Reception with this little antenna is excellent. I was able to get almost identical results with a much larger and more cumbersome yagi directional antenna.
