xGereat little drain auger and, at the price, an incredible deal
This auger was great. I read the reviews on some of the other augers and there were complaints about short battery life, the machine not working as advdrtised, etc. The battery on the greenworks lasts an incredibly long time. It arrived already chareged so I plugged it in and went to work: after 30 minute the battery indicator showed it stil had 2/3 of its charge left. The machine is easy to use and I was able to just read the quick instruction sheet and go right to work. I was trying to free up a 4 inch pipe that was an extension from a gutter drain pipe. I had tried snakes, water jets, etc. and still could not free it up. After a 1/2 hour of work with the greenworks auger, the drain was running freely. I did follow the instructioins and let the machine do the work. I did not try to forc anything and would back off the auger periodically as suggested. A great buy and one I can heartily recommend

Real deal
Easy to use. Fast unclog better than using unclogged solutions.

Good Value Medium Duty 1/4" Cordless Drain Auger
I use this more than twice a month for a small apartment complex and mostly small diameter, indoor sink drains. This is a bargain for what it is, auto feed and reversable direction motor make this so much easier than the usual manual crank drain snakes of the same length and diameter you can get for cheap at most hardware stores. This is NOT a heavy duty, professional quality snake as you have to finesse the wire into some tough clogs or risk snapping the wire. I had to dismantle the machine to bend the auto-feed prongs back into shape as it stopped working after about 15 uses but the auto-feed has been fine after another 40 clogs. One feature that is missing and really needed is a locking position when you don't want auto-feed while trying to carefully push through a tough clog in the neutral position which just allows the wire to be pushed back into the drum with no force. I have to manually grab the wire and hand feed it a little bit at a time, leather gloves required. Battery will probably run for around an hour before needing recharging so can get a few clogs on one charge. Also wish that replacement wires from other mfrs. were compatible as the attachment ends are all different and you end up paying full retail having to buy directly from the Greenworks site. Handle this with care and dry & oil the line when you're done and this should last awhile. Overall, a good deal and I have gotten my money's worth from this already and still going strong.

Disappointed - Received Used Auger
Received the Greenworks Auger today. Package had been opened. Auger was obviously a returned unit. Only packing inside were used plastic bags including the battery. Auger had scratches on drum and dirty handle. I charged the battery (only took 15 minutes) and the unit does work. As I was in need for the unit, I performed the task without incident. Consequently, I am keeping the unit to keep someone else from experiencing the same disappointment I just experienced. It is sad Greenworks wants to be remembered in this light.

Woo-Hoo!
I very much adore my local plumber, who has been punctually and cheerfully helping us out for more than 20 years. However, like all competent plumbing professionals, he is expensive – $260 to snake a basic clog these days. When the shower stall started draining extremely slowly, I was reluctant to call him. I first used my drill-powered snake, which has been extremely consistent over the years – it never works. I then hunted around on Amazon for a more powerful alternative that wasn’t going to cost more than $150. Since I own a Greenworks lawn tool, I already possess one of their universal batteries. As a result, their electric augur cost me $60 with tax. This tool is much more robust than my drill augur – the cable is highly flexible and doesn’t permanently bend into angles that make it difficult to maneuver. Just push the button, lower it into the drain and it does its job. If it snags, it means it’s plowing through what's causing the backup. After two rounds of snaking over 25 minutes, the drain was unclogged. That $60 investment not only cut the cost of repair by nearly 80%, but paid for itself three times over in its first use. I probably won’t need to use it again for another year or two – that’s about how often we have minor clogs – but knowing it’s there and will work offers great peace of mind.
