SCRABBLE (TM) Secrets: This book will seriously improve your game (Collins Little Books)

The book is tightly bound and difficult to hold open. The content is amazing.

I love the info in this book, however, I don't like the quirky titles for each section, they make it difficult to find what you're looking for. Once you find what you're looking for there's a lot of great words including definitions (which a lot of similar books do not include) for me I need to know what words mean to make me remember them for later use.

This review is for "Collins Little Book of Scrabble Secrets" by Mark Nyman, updated version published in 2018. Softback.The first thing I noticed is that the stiff board covers and elastic 'keeper' of the previous edition have been replaced by a thick paper cover, which feels all right. The book is also noticeably thicker with about 225 pages. Unlike the previous version, it has numbered pages and a table of contents at the front - incredibly simple but so useful improvements on the predecessor. An index would improve it still further!The 2- and 3-letter word lists make up the biggest difference in thickness, since they now have definitions, which I personally feel is an improvement, since I like to know what words mean, and feel that they help memory retention (I can always use the previous edition for quick revision practice).There is in fact a very large overlap with the previous edition, as you might expect (and also with Barry Grossman's '101 Ways to Win at Scrabble', which you might not), but it's worth looking out for the differences (like Fatherly Advice) where some tart examples of anagrams have been added. Nyman is consistently readable, and often witty. He is never patronising. There is a lot of good advice - more on methods of actually learning the words and solving anagrams might have been even more helpful. An excellent buy.
