    A source, not a history

Bakikhanov was the nephew of the last Khan of Baku. This work was written about 1838 in Persian. It covers the history of the area around Azerbaijan from the sons of Noah until the Russian conquest. Familiarity with local geography is assumed and there many Alis and Hoseyns who are hard to keep straight. Footnotes are limited and there is only one map. On page 114 Sulaqchay and Sulaq are mentioned, both apparently meaning the Sulak River. The same page mentions the fighting at Enderey without a footnote saying that this was the first fight between Russians and Chechens. A place called Aq Su is mentioned which seems to have been the secondary capital of Shirvan. You can extract a history from this but it takes a good bit of work.
