KICKASS PLAYS FOR WOMEN

1/2 Compelling
The first and second plays are excellent. NINE is gritty, torturous, and difficult, but is a captivating look at the horrors of POW detention and interrogation, betrayal and support, and what two women will do to persist and survive. COMMENCING is a zany romp about a blind date in which a heterosexual woman is, without foreknowledge, set up with a lesbian. It explores themes like gender roles, societal mores, and finding common ground inside diversity. For me, the 2nd two plays don't belong in the same volume with the first two. Still I would recommend the book for the first half.

It's ok.
I didn't especially like any of these short plays. The first play is a drama about 2 female prisoners. I dare say, I like that one and think it is the best. The second play is a comedy about a straight woman who is set up on a blind date with a gay woman. Both of these women where caught off guard. That's a funny concept! It's a good idea for a story, I guess. The third play takes place in a cemetery. A woman has just lost her unfaithful husband and meets a runaway teen who just likes to hang out in cemeteries. I found this one to be vulgar. I didn't even finish reading the fourth play because I felt frustrated and disappointed with this play selection. The biggest reason why I didn't like these plays is because the dialogue sounded unnatural to me. Like the characters are just rambling on with nothing important to say. Just wasting their breath and causing each play to drag on.

Kickass Plays for Women
Disappointing. Wanted the scripts for drama exams but none of them are suitable. Lots of swearing and sexual references but lacking in depth of character.
