The Last Goodnight: A Riveting New Thriller (Blood Ties, The Logans)

Kat Martin has done it again! I absolutely loved The Last Goodnight the first book in her new Blood Ties series. I could not out it down and I loved every moment on every page of this page turner. Kat Martin has once again proven that she is an incredible storyteller. I love how The Last Goodnight is told from the perspective of the main characters in the story, I love reading books where the story is told from different character's viewpoints. I loved the characters in The Last Goodnight, I especially loved catching up with the Sam Bridger and Libby Hale, the characters from the prequel. The Last Goodnight is the story of Kade Logan, owner of Diamond Bar Ranch and Eleanor “Ellie” Bowman, private detective for Nighthawk Security. Kade hires Ellie to investigate who murdered his wife, Heather eight years ago after her car was recently recovered. While looking into Heather’s death, Ellie needs to help Kade investigate what is going on at the Diamond Bar. Two of his steers have been shot dead, and then his dog, and one of ranch hands are shot. As Kade and Ellie examine the incidents around the ranch, they spend more time together, becoming closer, and begin a romantic relationship, even though neither one of them is looking for a relationship. Both Ellie and Kade have been involved with cheaters in their past relationships, so each of them have trust issues. The Last Goodnight is filled with all the usual plot twists and surprises that I have come to love and expect in a Kat Martin story, and I was not disappointed at all. Kat Martin kept me guessing as to who was behind all the events surrounding the ranch and Heather’s murder. Love that there was a couple of stories within the story. I loved every page of The Last Goodnight and was so sad when I was finished reading it. I could not put it down. I was so happy that Kade overcame the disappointment of his marriage to Heather and opened his heart to Ellie. I love the epilogue and how it gave the readers Kade and Ellie’s happily ever after and how it goes above and beyond the happily ever after. I loved the wedding gifts that Kade and Ellie gave to each other, it was truly heartwarming, it was my favorite part of the story. I enjoyed how Kat Martin introduces the characters for the next book in the series. The Last Goodnight was an incredible story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this romantic thriller.

The Last Goodnight was an excellent read featuring a romance between a rancher and the private investigator he hires to look into his late wife's murder. When Kade Logan's wife Heather drove off eight years ago, he never thought it would be the last time he saw her. After her car is found in a nearby lake, Kade decides to hire someone to help him get to the bottom of her murder. Private investigator Eleanor Bowman specializes in undercover work so she integrates herself in Kade's ranch in the hopes of learning what happened to his late wife. After another young woman's body is found nearby, Ellie believes the deaths are connected and they're closing in on the killer. But when the killer sets his sights on Ellie, Kade will risk everything to save the woman he's come to love. Kade has spent his life working on the family ranch and he's never wanted a different life for himself. Kade is definitely an alpha male which personally I enjoy but I can see how his possessiveness could put off some readers. Ellie is a great character and I liked how independent she is. She's fantastic at her job and has a way about her that gets people to open up to her. She's very thorough in her investigation and I liked that she left no stone unturned. Kade and Ellie's romance develops quickly as they work together to solve his wife's murder. The attraction between them was immediate and their chemistry was fantastic. Kade definitely struggled to treat Ellie like an employee as a result and I liked seeing them fall for each other. When their relationship turns physical, the steamy scenes were well done. I enjoyed the two working together to solve Heather's murder as Ellie pushed Kade and took the case in directions he wouldn't have thought of. The suspense picks up quite a bit as we get closer to the end and I thought the final confrontation with the killer was very well done. Overall The Last Goodnight was a great read and I will definitely be continuing the series when the next book, The Last Mile, releases.

Excellent book! It’s always great writing when you read a book by this author. This storyline kept me entertained from the first page. I loved the ranch life; I felt connected with all the people involved; and, from the cooking to the problems of life itself made me feel part of the ranch itself. Kade Logan needed to solve the mystery of his wife’s death; he absolutely had to find help; and that help came from a smart, beautiful and talented Ellie Bowman PI. In the end, I wanted to visit Colorado, go riding a gentle horse and feel the calm of the mountains. Absolutely loved this book!

Slow start, but as the story built the tension of romance and the murderer grew. Good world building and character development. The romance didn’t seem natural at first, but as they grew closer and more was shared about their romantic backgrounds it worked. The killer was not expected. The reason, somewhat simple, but well told. The side stories of the ranch hands and staff were great, as was the animals and the love people had of them. The town had one great characters and some schmucks which was part of the development, but did make it hard to like the town at first 🤪 The ending was good and I liked seeing all the brothers.

This is the first Kat Martin novel I’ve read and for sure will not be the last!! I loved the storyline of Ellie and Kade. Two very strong willed and eager people both distrusting from past Love relationships failed but both determined to solve the murder mystery of Kade’s wife. This book would make a good movie for Netflix! I would for sure watch it!! Can’t wait to read more from Kat!

A new series from this author. Full of drama and suspense and intrigue. Wonderful characters and more stories to come I can’t wait to read the next book now.

Another good read by Kat Martin. She never disappoints. If you have liked her other books, you will certainly enjoy this one. 👍

Never read this author before but thoroughly enjoyed the book. Kept me hooked from beginning to end. Can't wait to read the next one
