My Journey to Heaven: What I Saw and How It Changed My Life

FANTASTIC!!
This book is candid, real, and beautifully describes Marv's Heavenly experience as well as others. My father passed 8 months ago, and honestly, I'm at an age where I needed the reminder of what is in Heaven, which has given me stronger wisdom. Thank you so much, Marv. I have looked at landscape colors all my life thanking Jesus for providing; the colors are even more brilliant and provide a piece to me.

What a wonderful, refreshing and uplifting story. Marvin is funny, honest and stubborn! I loved this book. I cannot wait to see the Gate one day and be with My Redeemer, The Lord Jesus. Thank you for this gift.

I Am Convinced That He Is Convinced
I cannot know what, exactly, Mr. Besterman experienced. However, I am confident he did, indeed, experience something far outside the realm of what we would call "normal". In other words, I do not think for a minute he made this story up out of whole cloth just to scam people, or sell a book. Nor do I think it was just a dream or some kind of hallucination. He remembers way too much fine detail for him to have just dreamed this in my estimation. People simply don't recall dreams with the kind of precision used to describe this experience. What DID actually happen to this guy? I don't know.If God and heaven do exist, and I personally think they do, then I do not find it impossible to believe that God could on certain occasions throughout history give a few very lucky people a glimpse of that reality. People who read the book and dismiss the story because they don't think it jives with the exact biblical description of heaven are missing the point. If in fact God were to show someone a glimpse of heaven, it would then be up to God to decide what He wanted that person to see and experience. What Mr. Besterman claims happened to him is so far beyond our human concepts it is mind boggling, and besides, the bible never gives a blueprint telling us in complete detail what heaven will be like anyway. So, who might appreciate this book? First, you have to believe in the afterlife, then you have to believe that God might choose to show someone that afterlife if, in fact, it does exist. If you can't accept those two faith-based premises, and they are without a doubt faith-based, then the book is almost assuredly not for you.Naysayers will doubtlessly relegate this story to the ranks of yet another crackpot Bible-thumper's apologist fairy tale, and sarcastically dismiss the believers as knuckle-dragging, delusional Neanderthals who cannot accept reality, ragging on the book because the author is a Christian, and that alone ought to give one pause.Often, it is simply assumed that anything that comes out of a professed Christian's mouth or reinforces a Christian world view must be inherently false at best, or shameless propaganda at worst. But quantum physics is showing us that what we think is "reality" is not always what it seems. I say, let the author tell the tale as he believes it actually transpired. After all, it is HIS personal story. If someone else wants to write about their own similar experience and has an entirely different spiritual take on it, then that is their right as well. In other words, don't just write the guy off because he is a Christian, or just blindly accept everything he has to say for the same reason.Did the events in this book really occur? Mr. Besterman thinks they did, and he makes a persuasive case that he was not "imagining things". Does that "prove" anything? Nope. The existence of God cannot be proven. Nonetheless, I found the book to be an interesting and entertaining read.

The author was not a crazy charismatic
This was a great book with great descriptions of what Mr. Besteman believes he saw and felt upon briefly leaving his body during a stay in the hospital. If you're not Pentecostal and you don't believe in what gets touted as the operation of the gifts of the Spirit, you may be pleased to know this book is written by someone who didn't believe in all that stuff either. He was Christian Reformed or Dutch Reformed or the like. I'm super skeptical when I read about people's claims of supernatural experiences. There are a lot of clouds without rain and wells without water running around bragging about false gifts. Proverbs calls out the foolishness of such simpletons who swallow it all hook, line and sinker. You have to be able to discern. I didn't see any red flags or exaggeration in this book. I found it to be sincere. Most memorable to me was actually how the author impressed me as what a Christian should look like among his friends and family. Marvin Besteman was an amazing example for the way he loved and esteemed the people in his orbit. I found the Heaven stuff edifying. None of it felt like a rehash of other people's stories, but it was his unintentional message that was my strongest takeaway. Looking back on the book, seeing the ideal Christian character one ought to have here on Earth is what I found most impactful.

So moving!
I got the audio version of this book on Audible for free. I could not stop listening. It was so comforting and moving. I had an awful fear of dying until I listened to this very interesting book. I got the regular book for my aunt.

a must read
Wow, I lost my amazing parents a few years ago and have been living with an unimaginable grief ever since. Im a Christian, a sinner who loves Jesus deeply but has felt like I’ve been walking in a dark cloud of depression since my beautiful parents transitioned to Heaven. I’ve always known they were in heaven and one day we’d be reunited and I would also stand face to face with God, my savior but that known fact has not erased the heaviness of grief. This book and most importantly God has helped, I will see you at the gate Marv! You too mama and daddy, oh what a reunion it will be!

A must read for everyone
What a great book. I can identify with some aspects of Marv. We are both stubborn as an ox. It is a relief to know what awaits us on the other side. Thank you Marv for spreading the word.

Genuine, true and totally uplifting - gives you great hope no matter what battles you are facing right now
I just got this book last week, ordered it after reading the reviews. I was not disappointed. I am going through a very rough time right now and this book has given me the lift I so badly needed. It is written in clear plain English so those who struggle with reading will be able to access this book. I had strong goosebumps most of the way through, so I know this is genuine and true. Really uplifting. Have recommended it to a friend who has recently been very painfully bereaved. While I have not been to heaven and back, my own mother has been back to me in spirit and also in dreams and she is young and well and as I remember her as a tiny child, she has been restored from 82 to a young lovely woman in her thirties. This book should fill you with hope and no matter what you have done in life, if you believe and trust in God, no matter what, then your name is inscribed in the Book of Life. I really did get uplifted reading this and trying to finish it tonight to lend it to someone tmw who badly needs this uplift. God bless you Marvin, I hope you are having a great time up there!Update Dec 2015 have got it on Kindle and also several other friends buying their own after borrowing mine
