I adore this as a starter to sewing, it really breaks the pattern down into its easiest elements. I have been able to follow and attempt a couple items so far to vary degrees of success, no fault of the book, just lack of sewing machine skill. The designs and lovely and the book has really simple easy to follow instructions. This should help anyone looking to get started building their own wardrobe.

I love this book, I’ve made so many things from it (and I’ve found it so accessible as a plus-size person) the styles might not be to everyone’s tastes - but this is no fault of the book - I’ve found them really adaptable and easy to tweak to my style.Sew it Yourself is laid out wonderfully with clear instructions, pictures and diagrams. This is the sewing book I return to again and again.

Bought as a Christmas gift. Was very well received. Just what was wanted

I'm an experienced sewist and I couldn't make any sense of the scrunchie instructions, in fact I think parts are physically impossible. If you want to make a scrunchie, search 'sew scrunchie' as there are good easy tutorials available. I haven't looked at the rest of the book in detail yet but it looks okay from the bandana onward.

I’m sorry to leave a review like this because I think it’s great when people try new approaches and help make sewing more accessible, but I thought the instructions in this book were extremely basic (I mean, I don’t need to consult a ‘pattern’ to be told to trace some of my existing clothing!), and I also thought the outfits were largely very unflattering and things I’d never wear. I’m giving three stars rather than two as I’ve been sewing for about a year so I’m probably not quite the target market. I’d highly recommend any beginners look at clothing construction in conjunction with either YouTube tutorials or some basic patterns to start to learn how to sew as I think you’ll get a lot further a lot faster than if you used this book.

I bought this book for my granddaughter who had expressed a wish to become a dressmaker. I found the garments produced very clumsy and off-putting and not at all inspirational for a young girl. Returned immediately.
