Single-use workbook covering 6-12 plus larger numbers, reasonably good value
This a stage up from when my 7 yo currently is in KS1 but it's a handy indicator of what to expect next year compared to the 'good old days' of just reciting times tables! The book is structured in a similar way to lessons with a starter, example and then some practice but obviously due to the nature of this quite a lot of pages are taken up with the theory rather than the practice which really isn't enough if the reason for buying was to get some additional practice in - as it is essentially 'single-use' it can be a bit tricky to persuade kids to erase and repeat rather than seeing it as a one-shot affair - I think I would prefer to see a couple of pages of practice per topic and would be prepared to pay a little more as a result. That said at £3 and 48 pages covering 6-12 multiplication and division plus 2 and 3 digit numbers, this is pretty good value compared to some of the super thin workbooks on offer. The text and layout seem overly spread out so I'm sure they could have squeezed much more in, though it depends on the reason for needing it - as a supplement to school learning, some more practice would be nicer, for learning from first principles it's a useful starting point to also aid adults. The illustrations of random kids seems a little unnecessary at this age, though the 'real world' examples such as counting chairs, tables, cakes and all manner of other everyday scenarios is helpful in understanding why this type of maths is both useful and needed in daily life. Not great, not terrible.

Useful Maths support
Aimed at ages 8-9 years studying Key Stage 2, this work book includes clear answers at the back. It is a spaced out workbook, but I would recommend having some spare paper on stand-by.I like that the contents has the names of all the different characters you will meet through the book, intending to make it more fun. There are plenty of eye-catching illustrations throughout, but I think there is a good balance between pictures and activities. The final section, called ‘Review and Challenge’, consolidates all the learning covered across the book, giving parents a way to identify areas that need working on further. In my opinion, they are not the easiest of questions, but there is a lot of scaffolding and examples for support. Children are expect to complete the tasks independently, but be prepared for some adult support. This book is part of a series intended for home learning. However, I think it would be better if there was more of a comprehensive guidance on how best to use this book, how long to expect activities to be completed etc.I like this as a way of complementing what is being learned in the classroom and imagine this is a book that will support my daughter as she navigates Year 4 and Year 5.

Great children's workbook
This is a great exercises book.Aim at junior school children in KS2 (ages 8-9)The book is filled with a number of activities to help your child improve their maths skills.Topics covered include multiplying and dividing by a range of numbers, before moving onto harder 2 digit and 3 digit numbers (some which will have a renaming in there answer)Each task starts off with a explanation and an example so you can talk your child through to see if they understand before they answer the questions. The questions are quick and simple with your child only needing to write a number, draw a line to the correct answer, however on some of the harder questions there is a space for your child to work out the answer.Answers (if needed) are to the back of the book. There are fun characters throughout the book which makes it more appealing for young childrenExcellent quality book from DK.Great value for moneyWill be purchasing the other workbooks in the rangeWould highly recommend

Disappointingly dull exercise book.
Whoever created this maths exercise book, just seems to have been going through the motions. There is no encouragement for a child. The text lacks clear explanations, there is no creativity, no empathy. It is little more than a series of spread out questions. The graphics and illustration which pad out the pages are poor. We particular dislike the creepy images of people. With their beady staring eyes and rigid limbs, they remind me of the horror flick, "Children of the Damned (1964)". The multi-ethnicity of the children might appease some, but when the images are unappealing and uninformative, they are achieving nothing positive. At the current discounted price the book may be worth its cost for supplementary learning, but it would not be my first choice.

lots os examples and demonstrations as well as testing the knowledge
This is a book in the Maths at Home series. It is a well produced boo with lots of colour and a good font.Clear index about what's been coloured in multiplication nd division. It is a great addition to the school curriculum and will often fill in blanks or clarify problems missed in class. There are examples and demonstrations as well as well as lots of challenges. Answers at the back. My grandson has problems with maths but has spent some time with this book so we are very hopeful
