Lovely garden planning book
Creative plans for porch gardens, formal herb, potager, salad gardens and more. Information on everything from sowing and cultivation to cold frames, pruning and insect control. Filled with full color diagrams of the gardens and pictures of them planted at their peak. It's difficult to resist the urge to plant immediately. Bought this book in the winter and can't wait to plant my 10 x 20 kitchen garden.

Like a good kitchen garden, this book is as useful as it is beautiful.
Inspiring illustrations of various styles of kitchen gardens, with a wealth of information on companion planting, best varieties for different climates and soils, timing for succession planting, etc.

Practical information abounds
I ordered this book from the library and after reading it, felt this was one I simply had to buy. Out of the seven "kitchen garden" books I've read or browsed recently, this one not only inspires with photos and drawings, but also provides extensive information on the variety of vegetables available today by seed and how to grow and harvest them. Then it goes one step further and provides suggestions on how to prepare them. As a seasoned flower gardener just now dipping my toes into the world of vegetable gardening, I found this particular book does the best job of guiding the new kitchen gardener from start (planning the garden) to finish (eating your results).

Great vegetable garden resource
This book makes a great companion to Jennifer Bartley's book, Designing the New American Potager. Bartley's book goes into great detail on the historical roots of potagers and the design process. Anna Pavord's book empowers you to grow successful crops in the potager setting. I especially appreciated her treatment of fruit crops and the wonderful information on pruning and maintenance of these crops. She gives detailed info on every vegetable I ever heard of, and many I had never heard of, with directions on planting, cultivating, harvesting, and even recipes on how to serve them. She only touches lightly on design, which is why I gave it four stars. Nevertheless, I must say that I have been studying and gardening for more than 25 years and still learned alot.

Very comprehensive.
I live in Cyprus , but it is a very comprehensive and useful book for our climate even thought one might think it would be more for colder climates.Written in a clear and humorous way.Certainly recommended for anyone who enjoys growing their own produce.
