The Art of Star Wars: The High Republic: Volume I

As someone who’s been enjoying the High Republic books & comics, this was something I was really looking forward to & boy did it deliver.This book is packed with tons of concept artwork, final character designs (to help put faces to names), and details about the plotting of this era of Star Wars stories.My only complaint is that Amazon can’t seem to package books in a way that doesn’t result in receiving a damaged product - I mean seriously, you’d think a site that started as an online bookstore would know how to package and ship books with care!I’d highly recommend this book, but I’d also recommend purchasing it from a retailer that cares about books and knows how to package/ship them.

The media could not be loaded.  Love the quality of this art book, beautiful pictures. I love seeing the behind the scenes. Got this as a companion as I start my journey reading the high republic. Really brings the characters to life. Great for any collector.

I wanted to give this a 5 star review because the overall art work is fantastic! It really gives a good idea on the artist’s take on the world of the High Republic. Too bad Amazon shipped the book with ZERO protection inside the box, which ultimately destroyed my book’s back cover. See pictures for reference. Aside from few pics made by Ralph McQuarrie for original trilogy (somehow ended in High Republic art book) and some of the book covers, quality of art is as cheap as you can get. Most of the book is filled with sketches that can easily be rivaled by many DeviantArt beginners.I am extremely disappointed and if Amazon allows, will refund it. I don't want to waste my bookshelf space for this.

The Art of Star Wars is a book that is what I would call a coffee table book. It is a mix of artwork/pictures and text. The text talks about how the concept of the High Republic era (which is set a few hundred years before the events of Episode I) came to be, how various characters and creatures were conceived, etc. The pictures range from very rough sketches (almost scribbles in some cases) to the final artwork that appeared on the covers of the various novels and in the graphic novels. The text is written from interviews with the artists/illustrators and the authors of the various High Republic era novels as well as bigwigs at Lucasfilm. It also includes some concept art from the movies and TV series as well.The hardcover version of the book is just under 230 pages. You can read it from cover to cover, but chances are a lot of people will skim it and mainly focus on the pictures. Either way, it is something that most people can get through in a few hours, or a day at most. It is also a good way for those people who do not get the graphic novels to see some of the characters who are described in the books but are not on the covers (or are not easily identifiable on the covers). It is a nice book and something those who collect the Star Wars books will likely find worth the pickup. It is, however, probably a bit much for someone who is just a casual fan.

I use this as a reference for my drawing and painting. Like the other Art Of books I have of star wars, it's wonderful, glad I bought it, like i did those other star wars art books.
