All in all, worth owning...
Cons: Overpriced at $48, a $30 book. Mediocre printing, several photo captions look somehow smudged, foggy. A few pages in my copy are oddly folded over and cut strangely, sloppy. Numerous typographical errors that by now, the 3rd printing?, should have been sorted out.Pros: Excellent historical information, clearly presented, very interesting, enjoyable.Chock full of photos and many are quality, some so-so.I'd give it a 3 1/2 or 4. A book on such a superior motorcycle should be better than average.

Provides great general reference information
This book didn't cover some of the material I was looking for but I was pleasantly surprised by what it did contain. I was looking for information on maintenance and repair but instead found a wealth of descriptive information about all of the Beemers in the years covered. The book identifies the features unique to each generation of bike, the various versions made in a given year, production anomalies, similarities and differences in comparable models, and reference data I have not been able to find anywhere else, including the BMW dealer.A catalog of bikes by serial number was what I needed to learn about about peculiarities of my bike's (1980 R80/7) production run. If you have an airhead or are interested in their history and technology you will find the book useful. If you want to buy a classic Beemer you will find it an indispensable guide.

Pretty good book
Pretty good book. A lot of facts about air heads, from when it all began to how many were made in what year. If you've got an air head, this is a good book to have.

Great air heads
Great air heads...I have 3 of them...and would not give a single one up...ride my 1984 R100RS...and it actually beat a new1150R...much surprising the rider! Thank you. The bad thing...the sweet spot for that 1984 is 100mph...I broke it in at too high a speed! :-)

True to the title
Very detailed and comprehensive with the exception of info on the R65 which I own. Still very worthwhile and a lot of fun.

Perfect book for all bmw airhead lovers
The ultimate bible in airheads. Goes into general knowledge as well as technical specs on each bike that is somehow often difficult to find.

A classic read
I recently bought another 1978 R80/7 after a long period away from airheads and enjoyed this read. A useful source of inspiration if you plan to restore an airhead not so much for the technical detail but for the background information. Plenty of photos and history to enjoy but this is not a substitute for a workshop manual. If you are reading this and are already a classic BMW enthusiast then you will in all likelyhood want to buy this to complete your ownership of your airhead.

Simply the best guide if you’re buying a boxer, which will ensure you will not buy non original or molested motorbikes.
