Totally worth it
The equipment itself is awesome! Was very impressed with the sound. My only complaint is the carrier came to me broken (left clasp wasn't attached at all and the handle broke right off when taken out) and absolutely worthless but this problem does not hurt the mic and accessories.

Works Great With Phantom Power
Item shipped quickly and received as described. I purchased this microphone (VidPro XM-55) for use in building a vlog setup at home. I am a novice with audio systems, so I struggled a bit with really bad noise with this unit, until I realized that it works best with an external preamp that also provides 48V phantom power via the XLR cable. This is probably a "no duh" type of comment for anyone that knows better, but if you didn't, now you do.For best results, do not install the AA battery into the mic; purchase a preamp that provides the necessary power for the unit. Once I figured this out, the microphone works very well! It picks up everything, so the closer to your face the better to isolate external sounds from being included. I am still working out the best balance between distance and gain (externally) to produce crisp vocals without too much room echo (to keep the mic out of camera frame). 10-18 inches seems to work best so far. The closer you get, the better the bass response. For the price, I would recommend this microphone, but you need an external preamp with power for best use.

really surprised
So far it is a huge bang for the buck especially if you a looking for an entry kit into location sound from the ground up. If you are a first-time buyer this would be a great kit since all you would need is a field recorder to get decent sound. I bought this as a backup kit and it saved my bacon twice on shoots and it produces some decent audio. still working on a few things to get better results but it is a worker right out of the box.Update: I found that you have to really bring up your gain or input level (depending on your recorder) in order to get the best from this mic. It seems to really work the best when soaking up the phantom power but can really give a good level signal when tuned right. It will take some fidgeting before your shoot to get things dialed but it comes out clean and clear. The dead cat needs to be combed when first using as it is packed so tight in the case it is all laid down and will pick up wind if you don't fluff it.

(for a lot higher cost) this is a good buy for the money as the user gets an ...
The product came as promised with all the stated items. I have tried out the mic' with my Canon Rebel T6i and found it is a decent directional mic. Though there are others that will pick up the sound signal more clearly, (for a lot higher cost) this is a good buy for the money as the user gets an idea of the basics needed for clear sound, on video. Also there is enough cord (25ft) to actually put the mic on a boom or set it up remotely. The two separate covers ("foam spit-cover" and "dead cat") are handy and give the new videographer a sense of the importance of reduction of sound from the wind. The basic configuration of placing the mic above the camera by use of a shoe for the flash port allows the mic to be used out of the box. The additional purchase of a 1/4 x 24 threaded shank of two inches plus a tensioner-nut (or wing nut) to be screwed into the handle at the end opposite of the mic will allow the mic to be implemented below the camera out of the field of view.

Works great for filming
For 90 dollars, this is as good as it gets for the kit, mic, and the price. I use this mic for filming and so far it has great quality. After recording you might have to do some noise reduction depending on location and what setting your mic is on. Audacity works great for that. The shock mount works great and has standard threads for boom pole. It comes with a male to male bolt thing, a male to camera mount pice, and a normal boom pole mount. The xlr cables aren't so good. There a little flimsy and you should be able to get better quality if you spend a couple extra bucks for a better one. It comes with a male to female xlr cable and a male to 3.5mm jack cable. There is also a 3.5mm to 6.3mm jack. The wind muffs work great and everything else was awesome. Overall, this kit was pretty good and the mic worked great for filming and any other use. It is way cheaper to buy the the kit with the mic then buy the accessories separately.

Crackling interference noise
I'm extremely bummed to not be able to review this mic better; but my experience is specific to wear I live.I live in Silicon Valley, less than 3 miles from Google HQ and less than 7 miles from Apple HQ. They have lots of tech projects and whatnot in my area. I pick up crackling noise interference on the microphone, both when plugged into Zoom H4n Pro and direct to Canon EOS C100. The pattern of the crackling sounds to me like signal interference from cellphones, radio, drones, etc. Now, from what I hear, the sound on the mic is fine if the background crackling noise weren't there. It came packaged well, all the accessories look great, I love the shock mount and pistol grip, the XLR cable is thin but the connectors look sturdy, I love the plastic case it comes in and the seller shipped promptly and well-packaged.I'm very bummed that I can't use it for the indoor interview application which I had intended for it. Perhaps it would work out in the field and away from the city (it comes with a deadcat), but I have no idea when I'll be able to try it out (and when my travel baggage will allow me space to bring a piece of gear that I may or may not be able to use).Very glad others have a good experience with it.UPDATE: I have bought the Azden SGM-250P to replace this microphone and I can confirm that there is no crackling noise from signal feedback on the same setup ( Zoom H4n Pro with GLX Audio XLR cable ).

case was the issue for only 4 stars
excellent product.the reason for the four stars is the case was broken when it arrived at my place.the latch used to close the box is broken.should make a stronger box to hold all the material cause everything is really tight inside.

Decent set but certain issues bother me...
I'm glad I waited awhile to review this mic set. Overall it has features that I like. The extended cord works great, I use it to run to a boom stand a lot. The sound quality is fairly good I've found. The one thing that takes my rating down to a 3 is that the on switch on the mic does not stay firmly in the on position, it seems loose or something. I have to switch it to the on position and then use electrical tape to keep it in the on position. That's just bothersome.
