Great sound in a small package; easy to sync and use Spotify Connect
Others have said what I am going to summarize, which is that you can't really go wrong with this stereo. It has a great balance of features, function, ease-of-use, price, and aesthetics—and at the time of this review, all for about $120. I bought this as a housewarming gift for a friend who wanted a radio in her kitchen so she can listen to music while she prepares dinner. She's not tech-savvy and wanted good sound in a small size that she could put on her counter. She's not an audiophile but loves music. She also wanted something that "would have a good Bluetooth that doesn't drop off all the time or amplify the sound of text messages." Here's where the Spotify Connect and internet radio right out of the box make life easy. Setting up with WiFi took just a few minutes, but the first pairing attempt failed. Turning the "off" switch in the back and turning it back on solved the problem. This detail is not in the instructions, so if in case the pairing fails for whatever reason and your WiFi network isn't detected, don't just turn it off via remote, but actually manually turn it on and off on the unit itself. Once connected, it has stayed consistently connected, streaming without issue, as long as the Internet itself is stable. I have been a fan of Sangean products for *years*—the build quality has always been excellent relative to the value, and for those who don't know, products made in Taiwan are on par with products made in Japan. The QC is high and there is great attention to detail to ensure each product is manufactured according to strict, precise specifications. So, you are really purchasing a highly crafted item that was subject to some of the highest industry standards. My only disappointment was that the cabinet no longer has a real wood veneer. My older Sangean models had a beautiful real walnut veneer, which is what I was expecting to see when I unboxed it for my friend; this appears to be a wooden cabinet (particleboard) with a printed faux-walnut pattern. I was surprised that other reviewers hadn't remarked on it (that I saw). Fortunately for my friend, she thought this was great, so if she cooks and splashes something on it, no biggie, just wipe it off... but I definitely thought it made the look of the stereo seem cheap, especially when you come up close to it and see the printed wood pattern. I would be happy to pay an extra $50-100 for a real walnut veneer like in models of old. This makes an excellent gift and is also a nice tabletop stereo for an office, kitchen, even a small sitting room or living room. It is packed full of modern features in a small stereo that is affordable, easy to use, and to most ears will sound great. I am annoyed that real walnut veneer is no longer being used, but this is aesthetic and just my personal preference. Hats off to Sangean, but do offer us that higher-end model with the walnut again, eh? ;)

Really Wanted to Like This Radio
I really wanted to like this radio. It's a nice design, good looking and the sound quality was very good. However, it would not hold a radio station. It would find the station but after 30 seconds it would lose the connection. It would then try to reacquire the station but would be unable to do it. The only way to get the station back was to re-input the station call letters. This would reacquire the station but again only for about 30 seconds. This happened with every station I tried. I sent the radio back. Too bad, as I said, it's a nice-looking radio and the sound quality (while it lasted) seemed good, but, if it can't hold a station, it's not of much use.

Excellent but flawed radio
First, the good. This is a handsome radio with pretty good sound, considering its small size and low cost. It's not hard to use ONCE you enter your favorite stations in the memory presets. Now, the bad. That process of entering your favorites is so nerve wracking and bewildering and counter intuitive that you may need psychiatric therapy to get through the process. The users' manual will be nearly useless. This task is only really possible using as app on your phone, called Airmusic, which is available for free. Even then it's a huge pain in the a&&. Just try to remind yourself how great it's going to be when you've finally set up the radio with your favorite stations, and power through it. And do it when no one else is home to avoid domestic disturbance arrests.

OK as an alarm clock or kitchen radio
Bought this as replacement for my excellent and great sounding Logitech Squeezebox Boom which after 12 years has stopped working properly. This Sangean is a nice-looking unit and seems sturdy enough, but the sound is not great. I have an older Sangean DDR-63 unit which sounds great for its size. This new one is nothing like so fulsome sounding, but in fairness, it costs considerably less than the DDR-63. The software on this new unit is a great improvement over my older Sangean and it is identical to that on an Ocean WR-230 internet radio which I also own, so the learning curve for me was a non-issue. If you want to listen to music this is not the radio for you. Talk or music, the sound is tinny, and the EQ function makes little difference in sound quality no matter which setting is applied. Should be acceptable for use in the kitchen while I work, but not for much else other than perhaps as a bedside alarm clock radio. Bottom line - nice looking unit, good software and remote control, ok unit for price point. AMAZON: Not impressed that you sent me someone else's return rather than a factory sealed unit [ everything in the box had been opened and the original setup menu could not be used because it already had someone else's network settings and radio stations presets already set-up on it. Because I knew the software from my Ocean radio, I could get everything fixed up and going ok and the unit appears undamaged, so I am keeping it. Because it was "used" this probably explains the 45% price reduction on the 6 units they had in stock the day I ordered. Not impressed Amazon.

A Taiwanese Powerhouse. This is top-notch sound quality.
Wow. I'm blown away by the rich sound this little radio has. POSITIVE: 1. Build quality: This radio has an exquisite finish. The selection of materials is on point and delivers a premium feel. From the clickiness of the back-lit buttons on the top to the volume/selector knob. The wood is very nice, smooth, and with horizontal stripes pattern. Lastly, the weight of the device tells you a thing or two about the quality of this system. 2. Outstanding design: Beautiful color screen with a nice matte finish frame sporting the Sangean logo on top and the two USB type-A ports on the bottom along with a 3.5 headphone jack. (Cool tip: You can configure the screen to be black and white from the settings menu, and it instantly transforms the look and feel of the radio, give it a try!) The grill protecting the speakers is solid and completely hides the speakers themselves, creating an uninterrupted metallic mesh that extends on both sides. They flush seamlessly with the wooden body of the radio. 3. Connectivity: Internet radio, Spotify Connect, Cloud Audio services such as Amazon Music, Tidal, Napster, Deezer, etc. It also has Bluetooth and USB support for your FLAC, and MP3 files. Speaking of which, yes, you can set up UPnP playback from your computer/laptop. 4. Sound: Wow. Plain wow. This radio sounds better than a Bang & Olufsen speaker I've used in my bedroom. Specifically speaking, the mid-tones are so rich and crisp. It also has a nice bass for those who enjoy techno and other fast-paced genres. The radio has an equalizer featuring five presets and a manual control where you can set the gain/loss that you desire. I'm enjoying the Jazz preset. It highlights the voices, guitars, trumpets, and saxophones very nicely. I notice that the sound does not change as I walk around the room; therefore, I can say the rich sound is there regardless of your proximity or position in the room. (Please, be aware that I'm saying room. If you are in a 1,000-square feet living room, the experience will be different) 5. Software: Simple, easy to use. The volume knob also acts as a selector, and you can press it down to confirm/return depending on which screen you are on (Similar to the BMW iDrive selector knob from the 2010s). When the radio is on standby, it can display the time (It supports analog and digital layout, and you can also choose the color). If you have weather information configured, the radio will display it altering the clock/weather a few times per minute. A row of buttons underneath the knob allows you to access the equalizer, bedtime mode, skip forward/backward, standby, and your five presets. An additional row contains home, alarm, and local radio buttons. Observation: Spotify Connect is the only one built-in (It does not require a separate app to work). For All other cloud services, you need to install the companion app on your phone (It supports iPhone and Android), and you need to log in with your credentials the first time. Once you finish setting up your cloud services, you can play them on the radio. Negative: 1. No Compact-Discs. The saying goes, “you can't have everything in this life,” this is true with this wonderful radio. Supporting CDs would have made this radio the PERFECT system for a bedroom or a small living room. Life is about compromises, and I've learned to love this radio without this function. 2. Tidal does not sync album art. This probably can be fixed with a system update (This radio supports OTA updates). For the time being, Spotify, Internet Radio, and podcasts show album art perfectly. Tidal is the exception. It will show the artist, song, and album names but no picture. I'm okay with it, As long as I can play my songs. CONCLUSION: Do yourself a favor and buy it. You won't get this quality and set of features for this price. OBSERVATION ON SHIPPING: This radio ships with its manufacturer packaging. That is to say, and everyone will know you buy it. This thing laying on your front porch unsupervised is just asking to be robbed. Especially when the manufacturer's packaging shows what a beautiful system is inside, keep an eye on your order! 👀

Disappointed. Various Issues. Returned
Unfortunately this radio had a number of issues which caused me to have to return it. The first issue was the display would not remain illuminated regardless of the display and/or power settings. The second issue was the USB fob which I use to listen to my music on my two other Sangean WFR-28 models kept cutting-out which sounded as though the unit had/has a short circuit in it somewhere. Note that this same USB fob plays fine on my other radios, PC's and laptops, so it was not a problem with the USB fob. The third issue was the inability for me to enter (letter-by-letter) the exact internet radio station I wanted (like I am able to do on my other two Sangean WFR-28 model internet radios). Despite my best efforts to find my favorite internet radio stations using the only available methods on this radio, I was unable to do so. I liked the look and size of this radio, as well as the sound . . . unfortunately, due to the above mentioned issues, I had no choice but to return it. Amazon made returning this radio very easy, which I appreciate very much. UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW: After returning my original Sangean radio for the above mentioned issues, I decided to take a chance and ordered the radio a second time. Unfortunately, this second radio has similar issues as the first one, in addition to other ones. This time, after the radio has been off all night, it occasionally refuses to turn on again in the morning unless I unplug it plug it in again--then it turns on normally. The display illumination (dimmer) only works sporadically. The equalizer function is completely worthless because changing the settings makes little to no difference in the sound. Also there is way too much bass regardless of the equalizer settings. I did stuff cotton in the two rear port holes and this helped a little. And finally, it is nearly impossible to input your own internet radio station. Believe me, this latest software version has many fewer built-in stations and the ability to search for them is frustratingly difficult. There are a few videos out there worth watching which clearly demonstrate this. This time I am going to keep this radio vs. returning it, but only because I will use it to listen to my music through the USB input, and the meager five internet stations I have managed to find and like. I highly recommend against purchasing this internet/USB radio. Why Sangean did away with their Model WFR-28 is beyond me. I still own two of these and love them.

I bought the Sangean WFR-32. What a fine piece of equipment! Superbly designed!!
I purchased the Sangean WFR-32 radio from Amazon. This is a product that I had been waiting for for a long time. It did not disappoint. It is a well thought out piece of equipment. The WFR-32 is a wonderful purchase! The unit is all Wi-Fi. There are no tuners, therefore no chance of static. The owner’s manual advises to set the actual physical location of the radio. I liked this feature because the radio displays more local stations in my area than I could think of. Of course, one can always get local stations from anyplace in the world. There are 5 physical presets. However, it does not stop there. The radio can actually store 250 presets, or favorites. Also, the radio works with not one but two databases. It works with AirMusic and with MediaU. Both of these are apps for a smartphone or tablet. Both of these have a search function that allows you to look for a station or genre or artist of your choice. Both apps have you set up an account (free). You have to link your account to the radio so that you can easily go to the station of your choice. MediaU also allows you to do this on your computer, besides the app. Since the unit comes with a remote control I was able to use it to select radio stations I wanted to listen to. The radio has a setting called Sleep Radio. When you click on that you get to hear calming, peaceful music. One setting within Sleep Radio is Lullaby. This should be great for an infant’s room. Another setting that I tried was Spa. Again, serene music. I was able to link my Amazon music account to the radio. This is an added bonus. You can also link Deezer, Napster, Qobuz and TIDAL. When I clicked on the Internet Radio setting I saw a setting called Service. When I clicked on that there was a selection called Search Radio Station. I entered my search words and came up with several choices. When I clicked on each one I was able to add it to my Favorites. There is also a setting that says Add New Radio Station that enabled me to enter the URL of the station I wanted to go to. I was able to play music from my phone to the radio by means of Bluetooth. Also, I was able to play music that I put on a flashdrive. The WFR-32 has an AUX jack so I was able to make a direct connection from my phone to the radio. The WFR-32 comes with a Quick Start Guide. However, I went to Sangean’s website and downloaded the full manual for the radio. Very important to do this. I waited for more than a year for this radio. The wait was well worth it. This is a fine piece of equipment. It comes from a company that thoroughly supports its products. I called Sangean for clarification on some of the features of the WFR-32. The quality of customer service is beyond excellent. Jimmy from Sangean was kind enough to walk me through the steps of linking MediaU to my radio. This is the fourth Sangean product that I have bought. It will not be my last. Again, this is a superb, well designed, piece of equipment. You will not be disappointed.

Quality radio, East Setup and recommended.
I have had a few WIFI radios in the past and most are flaky when connecting to the online stations. But, this Sangean radio was flawless. I own an old Sangean SW radio and it is good quality so I expected the same here. It did not disappoint. Right out of the box, I plugged in and powered up. The three step on-screen setup found my wifi, and within a minute I browsed to a JAZZ station and streamed. The sound quality is clean for a small cabinet. Not lots of bass, but the built in EQ helped. Connecting to bluetooth took a bit of patience but once it found my phone, it worked well. The iPhone app connected quickly once I had wifi and bluetooth activated. For troubleshooting, which I did have to do briefly, I just went into settings and FACTORY RESET. So if for some reasons the internet stations don't populate, reset and it all comes back. As for the owner's manual, it's as brief as you would expect from todays offerings. Just enough to get you going. Overall, this is a good radio and one I don't hesitate to recommend.

Excellent Build Quantity. Good Sound in a Small Form Factor
I purchased this Internet Radio because I wanted to listen to radio stations from around the world. Although I can search for these stations online, bookmark them and play them on the computer, having a dedicated piece of equipment that connects to Wi-Fi means I do not need to be at my computer to listen. The large number of presets means I can easily store, edit, and revise what I listen to very easily. The "Air Music" app is the best way to search for stations and save the ones you like into the radio. It works well, but you must be connected to the same Wi-Fi that you connected the WFR-32 to, to use. Once you have. things stored; you can easily access on the radio itself. The unit also comes with a remote, so as long as you are not too far away within "line-of-sight" it works just fine. It is pricey, but if you wait for a sale price or discount, it is worth the wait. If something happened to this radio, I would not hesitate to buy it again.
