Darn Tough Vermont Fred Tuttle Cushion Micro Crew Sock (2005 Style) Men's

This review involves a long-ish story, but I’ve been told it’s worth it, so bear with me.I was first recommended Darn Tough by a co-worker who swears by them. He was a veteran hiker/outdoorsman and he gave them his highest praise. I was new to the world of wool socks, and initially I balked at the price of this glorious product. After a month of visiting amazon just to hover over the ‘add to cart’ button and then leave, he (like a true friend) badgered me into buying just one pair, for a trial.They arrived quickly and OH SWEET LORD I loved them. Upon the first wear, they fit snugly but not tight, they felt soft and smooth, with the perfect amount of cushioning; like they would protect me from all of the world’s evil. Like a Merino sheep was giving my feet a heartfelt hug.Fast forward a week. I have worn (and washed) the socks 3 times already, and wife asks where these new socks came from. I let her know I ordered them from amazon and that they were AMAZING. The rest of the conversation went something like this:Wife: “You ordered ONE pair of socks? How much do they cost?”Me: “hehe.. Well...depending on the style, somewhere in the neighborhood of $20 a pair”Wife: “WHAT!?! You spent $20 on ONE PAIR OF SOCKS?!?”Me: “Yes, but love them. AND they have a lifetime warranty”Wife: “What if you lose one of them? You’ll have a warrantied lone sock”Me: “Never. I will protect these socks like I would a child. You wouldnt understand.”Wife: “You lose socks constantly. This is going to be a waste of money!”Me: “I AM NOT GOING TO LOSE THE SOCKS!”Wife: “Wanna Bet?”Me: “Sure. What are the stakes?”Wife: **Thinks about it** “...If you lose one of these socks within 6 months, you have to give me a 20 minute back rub EVERY night for a month”Me: “ooookay….what do I get?”Wife: “What do you want?”** I merely looked at her, and smiled for her to realize what I (and every guy) would want as payment.Wife: **rolls eyes and sighs** “Fine, I’ll do one a week for a month. Not that it matters. You’re gonna lose the socks within 2 months.”ME: “DEAL!!!”Quick math check on the stakes here:Hers: 20 minute massage X 30 Days in a row = 600 minutes of massage (or 10 HOURS)Mine: 5 minute ‘massage’ X 4 weeks in a month = 20 minutes of ‘massage’Seems like a sweet deal for her…We agree that neither will cheat - I will continue to wear them as often as I can, and she will not attempt to hide them or cause me to unfairly lose a sock.4 months pass… I have not lost the socks! I still love them. They greet my foot like an old friend, remembering every gritty detail and accepting them with the same softness and warmth. But they also still feel fresh and new every time I wear them. These socks are everything right in the world. Around this time, my parents (unaware of the bet) buy me 5 more pairs of these exact same Darn Toughs for christmas (HALLELUJAH!). As exciting as this is, I won’t be deprived of my payout on the bet because of a technicality. I shelve the socks, still in their packaging. They will have to wait.I had a scare at the 5 month mark. Two days in a row I had not found my socks after a brief search, and I was beginning to be worried. Not when I’m this close! I won’t lose now! On the third day I commit to a thorough search, and find them sticking out from underneath the laundry basket. Disaster avoided! We’re back in business! Wife was visibly upset when she saw me with them again. I guess she had seen them there and hoped I wouldn’t be able to find them. Little did she realize I would move mountains for these socks.Finally the day comes. 6 months! My victory is upon me. I decide the best way to claim victory is to approach her after the kids are asleep.She’s lying on the foot of the bed, doing something on her phone (facebook or instagram maybe)I’m wearing ONLY the Darn Toughs, but she hasn't noticed me yet. She’s probably ‘liking‘ someone's post about their dinner. I do my best ‘Captain Morgan’ on the edge for the bed. Here’s what followed: **SPOILER - It’s appropriate for the Amazon reviews page**Me: “Hey Babe. Know what day it is?”>>Now she looks up<<Wife: “EWW”Me: “ 6 MONTHS! PAY UP!”Wife: “What are you talking about?”>>WHAT?!? OH NO YOU DIDN’T! You are NOT playing that card on me.<<Me: “...The bet. The sock bet. It’s been six months and I still have them!”Wife: “Oh, that… What was the bet again?”>>IS SHE KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW? WOMAN YOU KNOW WHAT THE BET WAS!<<Me: “I would give you 20 minutes massage every night for a month, or you would give me….something… Once a week for a month. Don’t pretend like you don’t remember”Wife: “Oh...… Well didn’t you get a bunch of those for christmas? That makes the bet off”Me (grinning): “OH, you mean THESE socks?”>> I throw the five pairs, still wrapped, onto the bed. MUHAHAHA<<Wife: “........oh……..well……...I’m not doing it.”Me: “ So you’re saying that even though you made this bet, that we shook on it, and that you would DEFINITELY make me pay up on if I had lost, you won’t do it.”Wife: “Yeah, I’m not doing that”A part of me knew it was a long shot. Hell, all of me knew it was. But it was worth a try. The upside is that now I have 6 pair of these socks, which are still so glorious, I would believe you if you said God Himself had made them for me. Also I now get to throw this back at the wife any time she ever says ‘Wanna bet?” Thank you, Darn Tough, for making these socks. They are the best I have ever worn, and they nearly got me the happy ending I deserved.TL;DR - Wife bet me these socks weren’t worth the price; She lost the bet and didn’t pay up. Still the best socks ever.

I work in Law Enforcement and have to wear dark socks 6-7 days a week. The dye on the cotton socks bleeds on to my feet and get sock fuzz all on them. These socks are comfortable and there are none of the negative issues I’ve experienced with the cotton socks. Also, they wick moisture really well. They’re more expensive than ordinary socks, but they have a life time no questions asked warranty, so I figure it evens out. I’ve went on to buy several more pairs in different colors for when I’m not at work. Darn Tough makes an excellent product and it’s backed up with excellent customer support. I’ll pay extra for 5 star customer support and that’s what Darn Tough offers.

I have a few of these specific crew socks for work and they are fabulous. This micro crew has that same durability. Love em!

While expensive, I find these have lasted longer than even the other big name brand. I have rough heels, and these do not wear thru anywhere near as fast as much less expensive socks and longer then the other big namebrand

I have only worn these twice so far but my initial observations are that they are very well constructed. The attention to detail is obvious. Well cushioned footbed. Large size fit my flat, wide size 11 feet perfectly. Fine gauge merino wool is very soft with no itch factor at all. No slipping, bunching or seams rubbing. It know they are expensive for a sock, but if you work on your feet or hike, they are worth the investment.

Wear them summer and winter

They got me. I know $25 a pair is a large sum for socks, but I am a convert. The only reason I wear another sock is because all the DT's are in the laundry.

Super quality

This is not a six pack of socks, it's just the one. Socks are good quality, fairly warm for Melbourne winter weather, but don't spend your money here for what is advertised as a six pack. I'm lucky I only paid $24.

Hands down the best socks I have ever bought. They are extremely comfortable and warm, great for my steel-toe work boots. These are the first wool socks I own that are not itchy. They certainly aren't cheap, but they are worth every penny. I am slowly converting my entire sock collection to Darn Tough socks. The quality and the lifetime guarantee can't be beat!

I bought this because the description stated "Special six pack" the parcel only contains one pair of socks.
