I visited this company to purchase this distillation device
A few years ago, I drove to southern Missouri to purchase a 13 gallon still with a three-inch diameter, two-foot column. I also purchased the 5,500 watt element controller. The visit was memorable. The fellow who owns this company was out front with a couple of employees working on some distillation equipment. I was amazed. An open faced shed sat on a gravel lot with an 800 gallon stainless boiler. I watched as these guys worked on equipment and they obviously are masters of their craft.I was a little taken aback by the fact these folks obviously supply major equipment (800 gallon boilers and complex equipment) to what has to be fairly major outfits, but he was willing to take the time to meet with me and give me a quick run-down of the equipment. Many of the things he sells, if not all of the things he sells, he designs and builds. The quality is superb. Examining the welds on my equipment, it is excellent welding work. I have been using this device for a few years now and have yet to replace the silicone rings or the heat-resistant tubing or valves that control the cooling kit. This 5500 watt element is the only way to go for a beginner. The element sits inside the pot so there is no open flame. This is the only way I would run distillation equipment inside. Using a 2 foot column, I can get 170 proof out of the spout - that is the average proof of the end product. The heads (the stuff coming out early on) hits 190. You do not want 190 proof dripping out near an open propane flame burner because this stuff will burn near invisibly. The only way you know you have a fire is stuff starts melting. But with the internal heating element, there's little risk of such. Even for an ADD hobby distiller like me.The two-foot column can be replaced with a four-foot column (which he will sell you or ship to you later if you are desirous of a higher proof alcohol) to up the proof to maximum (about 194.5 proof - which is as high an alcohol proof as you can get without using a vacuum device in a laboratory setting). If you want to run out whiskeys for aging then you can remove the column and use this still as a pot still. The column gets packed with either clay rings (raschig rings) or copper distiller's mesh. I use a combination of both - first half of the column rings and the second half mesh. The still controller is built with high-quality parts. I've taken it apart to examine it - it is put together well. The housing is very thick and of high quality. The cord is thick and durable and quite capable of handling the current.I have had no problem with this equipment beyond the normal expendable stuff. A friend was using it to distill water and ran the water level below the element causing damage, but that was easily fixed with a new element and a new amperage meter in the controller. - Lesson: Don't let your friends use your distillation equipment without strict supervision because they may run it dry and damage it and it strains the relationship.Check out this company's website - they offer a range of equipment that will fit any need - whether you are a hobby distiller or a master distiller for a distillery. Also, they answer the phone. I've called them a few times to ask a question or to figure out what equipment I need - they are responsive and pack the stuff they mail professionally so it doesn't get damaged.I have had a blast with this still and will no doubt hand it down to my children.I am a real person and this is a real review - hit me up at [email protected] if you have any questions about my experiences with this company and their equipment.
