Wonderful for Mac Computer backups
I have a Mac Computer and use this for my Time Machine Backup software that comes with the computer. You can also use the software that comes with the unit. It worked from the second I plugged it in my computer. Great price!

Software needed
I wanted to use this drive to move and keep track of bibliographies, articles, primary sources, scanned manuscripts, incunabula, etc. But some of the computers I used are protected by administrators ID at my institution, and it needs power. TG I didn't pay for this, it will sit in an office and no one would use it.
