A guide and resource for every woman
I really enjoyed the breakdown of this book and the seriousness it takes in the need for women’s health especially cardiovascular health. Covid left a lot of gaps and showed the world the issues we have in healthcare in general. I have heart disease that runs in my family so I wanted to find a good resource in my 30s to make sure I do all that I can for a healthy heart. This book is easily organized into 3 parts. The first part is made up of 5 chapters that discuss heart disease in general and for women as well as how to notice clues or possibilities of heart disease in your own body. The second part was great in that the steps to get a healthier heart are within the acronym S.T.E.P.S, making it easy to remember. There are about 6 chapters, each focusing on the 6 weeks and the steps needed to reach your goal of a healthy heart. These steps go from food in your house and what to eat, moving your body, getting support or a partner to become healthier, things to change in your life like stress and sleep, and how to permanently keep this lifestyle. These changes are life-changing and thus need to be a lifestyle, not a fad. The last part is full of resources to help support like menu ideas, portion guidelines, no gym exercises, and medicines that may help before or after a heart attack. The end also had a great Q&A section that was full of helpful situations or worries for women and heart disease. I really loved this book and I plan on starting the S.T.E.P.S. needed to ensure I do my best for a healthy and happy life and heart. As the authors say, it is never too late to start!
