Absolution is book #3 in the Edgewood fantasy sci fi series. Intriguing story gets a 5 star for sure !!
To the author, Karen McQuestion, all your character's are well defined which make’s me feel that I can visually see what each and every character looks like, see what they are wearing, see their facial reactions, and what each one is thinking, their like's and dislike's, their personalities, weakness, their courage, their concerns etc. Your descriptions are spot on, even when you are telling a reader about the not so nice people. You describe clothing, scenery, places, things etc. To me it is like I am watching a movie and can see everything you see in your head. I like the different personality's that Russ, Nadia, Mallory and Jameson have. All different. I also like the cover which show’s the main 4 characters. You have accomplished to educate me and have me hooked on a genre I had not read before. Your descriptions of the power's that Nadia, Mallory, Jameson, Russ, Sam Specter and others were intriguing . You have also educated me about the Associates vs. the Praetorian Guard. I Google everything that I don't know about and I did Google and got educated about the Praetorian Guard in 275 BC, and other things you mentioned. You had to have done a lot of research with all that is in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed everything in Absolution. 58 chapters in this story and they flew by for me for sure. Thank you Karen McQuestion.I kept wanting to turn the pages to see what was happening or what was going to happen next. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. There are many twists and turns and unexpected happenings through out the story, it was a great interesting read.I am not a spoiler so I will carefully write the following. After reader's read Absolution they will know who I am talking about. I really appreciated Karen McQ. including what some family members were going through and no matter what the problem she showed commitment, devotion, emotions and love that was given and how important these qualities are in life.I am no spring chicken, I am a few months away from seventy--yikes, yet I have read all 10 of this author's books which are books for kids, young adults and adults and enjoyed every one of them. I recommend Absolution and every book Karen McQuestion has written.

Not as satisfying as the first two
After having really enjoyed the first two books of this series, I was surprised that this one didn't sit as well with me. Perhaps it was because I read them all back to back -- maybe I needed a break in between, like a mental palate cleanser of sorts so I could come back to the next one with fresh eyes, but there it is. It wasn't the writing, which is still very well done. I still enjoyed the two main characters, Russ and Nadia. As I noted in my review of the second book I do think there was still more that could have been done with Mallory and Jameson -- the former did get some additional depth created for her, while the latter was again relegated to just being a foil for Russ. I think where it suffered a bit for me was the plot itself. The Praetorian Guard and the Associates started to get a little unbelievable for me in this book, the PG came across as huge but basically incompetent, and the Associates just seemed too obtuse and Machiavellian (sp) in their plotting to have ever been so much of a threat. Still, it wasn't an unsatisfying read. I don't know if there are plans for anymore books in this series, but I'd definitely read another and I want to find some of the other books by this author.

The Adventure Continues!
The latest installment in the Edgewood series, Absolution starts right where Wanderlust left off: Russ, Nadia, Mallory and Jameson are on their way home from a field trip in Peru. Only it wasn't just any field trip, because they aren't just any group of teenagers. After being exposed to a supernatural event, these four teens each have their own individual super powers and are now part of a secret society called the Praetorian Guard. Russ and his friends have been asked to use their powers to protect the President of the United States and her family during an annual black tie event, but this isn't your average bodyguard job. With politics abounding between the Praetorian Guard and their adversary The Associates, Nadia's controlling mom holding her captive in her own house, and Mallory acting anything but normal, Russ must protect the President while distinguishing who he can trust and still taking care of those he loves. As I write this review, I realize that I assumed this was a trilogy, this the final installment, but I can't find anything to support my assumption. If there will be more adventures made by Russ and company I will definitely not be disappointed! Just like the books that came before it, Absolution spins a tale of adventure and science fiction while maintaining its heart for friendship and the perfect splash of teen romance. Russ continues to be a protagonist that readers of all ages can get behind: he's brave and intelligent with a strong sense of right and wrong and a heart for his loved ones. But he also shows enough teenage boy qualities to emphasize that he's human and identifiable. My favorite thing about Russ is his main priority to protect the people he loves, and, especially in this book, that makes things especially interesting since he can't be available for everyone at the same time. This book took longer for me to connect with than the other two books in this series because there was a lot of set up that I thought unnecessary. I felt somewhat bored reading about all the plans and preparations for Washington D.C. and hearing about Nadia's house arrest. I think all of those things were important to the story, but they could have been condensed, especially for readers with a shorter attention span than mine. However, once the group heads to Washington D.C., the action does not stop! While this book could be read by high school and advanced middle school readers, I was entertained as an adult. I recommend this book as something parents can read alongside their teen and pre-teen children to engage together. Like all the books in the Edgewood series, there are great opportunities for lessons and discussions while reading, especially with kids growing and developing their own opinions. As an adult reader I thought I had everything all figured out, who Russ could trust and who was a "bad guy" - but let me humbly tell you I was completely wrong! This book will keep you guessing until the end, no matter your age!Bottom Line: A wonderfully exciting read for any age, but I think this would be particularly fun to read with kids! But don't start here, make sure you read Edgewood and Wanderlust first! They are all equally entertaining and full of adventure! 4/5 stars!

Had to finish it but a bit annoying
I found this series kept me compelled all the way through, but also a bit irritated. There are some good ideas, and some plot twists that kept me going. However the twists for the most part were so obvious that it just made the characters seem very stupid not to see what was in front of them. The other annoying thing was the gender stereotyping. The main character is a teenage boy. But there are two major teen girl characters as well. The main priority for the boy is to save the world, the main for the girl is to save her boyfriend, and to be jealous of other girls who have his attention. Also they have these superpowers, but the main girl seems to only remember to use hers sporadically, and allows some obvious risks to carry on whilst mulling over whether her boyfriend is interested in other girls. Not a patch on some of the other young adults series, such as the shapeshifters, but if you've finished all of those, these are worth a read.

Good ending.
Good ending, not really enough plot twists, but overall a worthwhile book to read. I recommend it for teens and up.
