Great pack for shorter day rides
I just received the Seral 4 and have been out on 1 ride of about 2 hours with it. The pack is a perfect fit for a shorter day ride like this. The pack fit comfortably in my lumbar area with minimal jiggling around with my pedal stroke. The ride included both extended climbs and high speed, technical descents, and through it all I found the pack comfortable and unobtrusive. The 1.5L bladder is the perfect size for a 1 to 3 hour ride when paired with a 1L bottle on your bike's frame. With the bladder full the pack has room for your phone, a couple of snacks and maybe a rain jacket if it's a small one. I keep my spare tube and tools in a bag under my saddle, so I don't need to add these to the pack. If you like to keep these in your pack things are going to get tight. And for an all day ride where you need to carry some clothes (sleeves, rain jacket, leggings) and more than 2.5L of water, this bag is going to come up short.I am very happy to be switching from a back pack to a lumbar pack (ok, fanny pack) for mountain biking. I've always hated having my back covered creating that big sweat stain all the way down my back and reducing my cooling capacity. The lumbar pack reduces the footprint of the bag significantly, and the Osprey airscape backpanel improves cooling and reduces the static sweat spot even more. I found that feature fantastic!I'd like to address a few negatives I picked up from other reviews that I found to be non-issues. The magnet is mentioned in multiple reviews as insufficient. I believe this is a design flaw that has been addressed. The product literature mentions a new, stronger magnet, and I did not have an issue with my hose and bite valve staying attached even though I haven't trimmed down the extra length on the hose, yet. Granted, I was not sending it off of 4-foot ledges, so I can't say that it will stay put through anything, but it was certainly sufficient for my average ride. A supplementary plastic clip might be a good idea for a day of double blacks in Moab.Other reviews have mentioned the hose not being detachable as a drawback. This, also, is not an issue the way the pack is designed. The hose exits the pack at the end of the pack's zipper, not through a dedicated hole, so when the pack is unzipped the bladder and hose can be removed from the pack as a unit without having to thread the hose through an opening in the pack. Easy! (And people who argue that a removable hose is easier to drain and clean don't understand the workings of that quick connect valve used to detach the hose. They make the hose almost impossible to clean when detached.)Another issue that has been raised, but I found inaccurate is that when full the bladder does not fit in the pack. I filled the bladder full, and it fit in the pack just fine. It was a tight fit, and it leaves less room in the pack for other items, but it fits. I still got my phone and a couple of Cliff Bars in the bag along with the 1.5L of water and still had room for for another item or two if needed.Too summarize, this is a great pack for half day rides or less, but if you're heading out to the desert for the day you better bring something bigger. It was wonderful to get the pack off my entire back and limit the coverage to just the small of my back. The pack sat comfortably on my lumbar area and I did not find it at all obtrusive or distracting. I am a roadie at heart and am used to riding with two bottles on my bike and snacks and clothing in the pockets of my jersey, so I am beyond thrilled to get the hydration pack off my back and down on my rump for mountain biking! As a side note, I originally received the Osprey Savu 5 as a fathers' day gift, and traded it in for this Seral 4. The Savu 5 is a lumbar pack that rather than incorporating a bladder has loops for carrying 2 water bottles; one on each hip. I tried this out and found having bottles resting on what amounted to the top of each butt cheek very distracting. The bottles jostled up and down with each pedal stroke while climbing and bounced on my hips with each bump while descending. Having the bladder of the Seral centered in the middle of my lumbar, cinched tight with the waist belt was much more comfortable.

Fantastic- hip pack
Wasn’t sure about it at first, I’ve used backpacks in the past and always has back pain when riding. A friend suggested this as an alternative.Did the vocation gears and beers off road ride, 52k and this pack was brilliant. No annoying shoulder straps, your arms are free, the pack is like a belt, didn’t really feel it, even with 1.5 litres of water. No back pain at all! Result. The pack it’s self:Good quality materials used - has osprey’s amazing life warranty. With 1.5 litres there was still space for, 4 energy bars, bag of jelly belly sports beans, keys and a pair of gloves. The magnet is strong and never came loose even on the extreme downhill sections. The hose was easy to locate and put back on the fly to.Basically it’s brilliant- used it every long ride since - it’s great.
