Live In Berlin

Greg who is this guy?
I heard about GP on a late night jazz station and thought I'd give it a spin. Well L & G, I was not disappointed with this pick. I have since purchased several Gregory Porter CDs and have yet to be disappointed. The sound of his voice, the make up of the players on the cuts, everything from soul to jazz to rnb is very nice, easy to listen to, and gritty yet polished. I thought it might change abit listening to him live but no regrets. Check this artist out, I'm confident you'll find something you like.

The Man
Gregory Porter is the man, I love him! His voice is strong & soothing at the same time. I listen to him & he brings tears to my eyes. I just love him!Saw him for the first time on Maryland Public TV, "Live in Berlin" so I ordered the CD (WoW!) Pleasant surprise is that a copy of the "Live performance" was included on DVD. I am soooooooooooo glad I purchased this CD.

Two Thumbs Up
I bought this cd for my aunt not knowing that it included a bonus dvd. She has called me twice to say how much she REALLY enjoys it and how she feels like she is at an actual concert.

I could have gotten the Bluray.
These are labed poorly. There are 2 CDs and a DVD. The Bluray is the same thing 2 CDs and the Bluray. I would have gotten the Bluray if I understood that that both packs had the CDs. Instead of how I understood it as CDs or Bluray. But either way Gregory Porter is AWESOME!

Top working band in their natural setting
I was privileged to witness Gregory Porter live at Llangollen earlier this year and however good he is on record the impact is at least doubled in a live setting. Having been to many concerts by many artists this was probably my all time favourite. Here is your chance to both see and hear the man and his sublime band on a 2CD/1DVD set recorded at the Berlin Philharmonie on May 18th, 2016. It's a simple setting, just the band, an undressed stage and a receptive and appreciative audience - and that simple staging allows the music to talk for itself. The musicians - Tivon Pennicott on Sax, Chip Crawford on Piano, Emanuel Harrold on drums and Jamal Nichols on double bass are supremely well chosen and suited to Gregory's music, the interplay between them particularly when improvising shows how well they complement each other.Gregory not only sings selections from all four albums to date: Water, Be Good, Liquid Spirit and Take Me To The Alley - he adds in some great covers too, referencing Papa Was A Rolling Stone and Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), giving a nod to his influences. Whilst the concert is split over the two CDs the DVD takes a slightly different approach where each song has a small portion of setting-up interview over the song's introduction. The concert is well filmed and gets you right in amongst the band, who are clearly enjoying themselves. There's a brief accompanying documentary 'Recorded in Berlin' as a bonus too. This concert captures an artist near the top of his game. It really does show the music off in the environment it was made for. This hardworking band is faithfully represented, and the way the songs are stretched and tweaked adds a whole new dimension to the album versions. A top band in their natural home.

Gregory Porter Live in Berlin - is a must buy for all Jazz fans!
This is excellent value containing 2 CDs of the 2016 Berlin Concert plus the DVD. The music quality on the CDs is excellent with songs from Gregory's albums: Water, Be Good, Liquid Spirit and in particular Into the Alley. I was lucky enough to see Gregory live in Harrogate in 2015 so it is good to have a DVD of him and his band playing live as a remider of that great night. Gregory is in great from backed by his extremely talented band members: Chip Crawford on piano, Tivon Pennicott on saxophone , Jahmal Nichols on double bass and Emmanuel Harrold on drums. Each band member has a solo spot. Personal favourites are the brilliant and moving 1860 What and Musical Genocide. Even though I own all his studio albums including his latest Nat King Cole and Me this is a good addition to his catelogue. Highly recommended.

If you love Gregory Porter...GET THIS !!!!
Jeeez...I never thought I would be writing this....if, like me, you love Gregory Porter, have all his studio albums and think they cannot be bettered, then you're wrong, just as I was...these live recordings are outstanding... his improv. is spectacular and a huge shout out for his musicians whose input here, far exceeds that included on the studio albums...and they are superb !! ..oh.....and the Berlin audience are really well-behaved as well as obviously having a ball !!...Lucky them...and you also get the DVD....!!!!...

The Man in the balaclaver hat emerges as a first rate live talent.
Gregory Porter, for anyone whoβs seen or heard him, creates a superb combo of Soul and Blues moods throughout the album. He knows when to allow his fellow musicians in the band the time and grace to express themselves but what a commanding voice for the oeuvre!
