Chums Rearview Mirror

I've had this for about six months now and have it attached to my Osprey Poco Plus. Other reviewers are right in saying that this is a cheaply made little mirror. You could certainly buy each of the pieces and put it together yourself. Good luck finding each of these pieces though easily. I think it is much more convenient to spend a couple bucks and buy one. Even though it is made of cheap pieces, it is still relatively durable. The mirror is attached to a retractable leash via a 3M adhesive circle. Some have complained that the mirror can easily pull off. However, if you know this is the case, it is very simple to always grab the it by the leash rather than the mirror. If you do that, this thing will last you for years. Price-wise, I think this is fine.As for the usefulness of this - I think it is indispensable. I use this thing constantly to check on my son sitting in the pack behind me. He likes it as well, because he can see my face and it reminds him I'm there with him. It clips right onto the loop on my shoulder strap and stays put. It swings and bounces a bit, but I barely even notice it is there and it certainly isn't distracting.Overall, i think this is a great little mirror and I would gladly buy another one if this one somehow broke or got lost.

The physical construction of the mirror on a pull string is genius. We have one on our front facing soft structured baby carrier and one on our hiking backpack which we use heavily for daycare pickup and drop off. The clip is easy to use and secure and the mirror is a good size. My only complaint is that they scratch easily, which is annoying - I can still see the reflection but it's not as clear.

I bought this mirror to replace the factory mirror that came with our child carrier. I have purchased Chums brand products before and been quite pleased with my decision. This time I'm right down the middle. I'm rating Chums RearView Mitrror based on how it has worked and performed, 5 stars. But if I were to rate it based on quality, 2 stars. After receiving my Chums RearView Mitrror my immediate reaction was that I can make this, which is what my brother-in-law did. Jealous that I can easily view my 1 year old Jake during our hike, Wes my brother-in-law bought a retractable badge clip and found some 2 sided tape laying around the house and proceeded to recreate my purchase with his factory mirror. If I have seen this product in stores before hand I would have elected to make my own as well. If this one fails or break it would be very easy for me to fix or replace. In all likelihood I would not buy this product again.

Ingenious idea. It's simply a retractable ID badge holder attached to a carabiner. Mirror is held together with double-sided tape.Eventually, sticker became separated and I meant to fix it myself but lost the badge holder. Oh well. I'll probably create my own now that it is no longer $10 but $16.

This product is great for back packing with a little one on your back. He also loves to pull on it and use it to look around. Its very sturdy and can be handled by a 16 month old and still not break.

this product turned out to be smaller than I expected, but it gets the job done. I hold it up so that I can see my grandson in the backpack when we are out walking.

My wife bought this mirror for the backpack I use to hike with our grandson. I rolled my eyes when she told me about the purchase but after hiking the first time with it, I discovered that it is a very useful gadget to have. I can check on my grandson and see what he is doing, what he is looking at and make sure he is OK. The mirror is attached to a retractable pull string so it is never in the way. I wish it was a little bigger so I could see more, but then it may be in the way. Who knows?If you have a backpack for kids, get this mirror. You will not be disappointed.

Looks cheaply made, looks like a home made craft project. Besides that- it is a brilliantly handy tool.
