Perfect replacement solution for that ubiquitous Bosch 009 'flat spot'
This PERTRONIX FlameThrower SVDA distributor is what every 'street VW beetle' should have, in order to do away with the bothersome 009 mechanical advance distributor 'flat spot'. The SVDA was intended to be the perfect match for a stock VW bug engine and it certainly works best, in my opinion (and that of so many others). The PERTRONIX FlameThrower SVDA has an electronic igniter module in it that perfectly replaces the old OEM (original) points/condenser assembly and in my experience with it, it performs flawlessly. The enclosed instructions are clear, concise and well illustrated, so no fumbling around getting it installed. Even a 'high-grade' chimpanzee could probably do it! 009 distributors are most at home in high-performance VW engines, Porsches and race modified cars. The Pertronix FlameThrower SVDA is the setup of choice for a stock or only slightly modified bug, intended for use on the streets and roads.

Should have done this sooner.
Super easy installation, easy timing adjustment and car runs better than it ever has. Should have done this much sooner.

A great replacement distributor for your VW
Easy to install and won't fail you. Other no name distributors that I've tried failed with a few months. I use this distributor in my 1969 Beetle, 69 Gia and 76 Transporter with years of trouble free performance..

Decent product, not so great technical support
Purchased this product in 2019 for a 1972 Super Beetle. Found that I was unable to set ignition timing, a procedure I have performed many times before on this vehicle. Upon further inspection I was able to determine that the distributor was firing 45 degrees out of phase.Contacted Carl at Pertronix and he was very dismissive and unwilling to accept my diagnosis. I explained that the rotating magnet was tightly pressed on and I was unable to remove it without possible damage, and I didn't want to risk breaking a new item that may still be under warranty. Eventually he agreed to allow me to send my distributor back for inspection (at my expense). Distributor was sent back to me and the paperwork included claimed that nothing was wrong with the unit. Yet now I was able to easily remove the rotating magnet and was able to set ignition timing.Called Pertronix and spoke to Carl again. He was very rude, made it very clear that he didn't trust my diagnosis and even commented that my hesitation/stutter indicated that I maybe was unsure of myself. I am happy with the quality of the product overall, but the tech. support agent who handled this has made it hard for me to justify spending money with them again.

No regrets
I had always thought my 009 dizzy was fine coupled with my 34 pict 3 carb. I can't believe how smooth my engine is now running. Ready for summer fun!
