Immensely detailed
I did not expect this level of detail. I am a history teacher and due to this book my knowledge of this event has increased immensely. The most important thing about this book is that it is not biased in favour of any one party.

Another well-researched book by Mr. Singh
Having visited Delhi so many times, I have never came across the history of the first war of independence, nor the monuments which represent it today. However, the author has truly enliven the topic with his narration of facts, figures, pictures, bibliography and details on the horrific times the city went through before and after the British onslaught in 1857. One has to devote to this book to understand the tumulous times ordinary citizens faced both at the hands of the British and the mutinous sepoys.I had previously read two books written by the author on the Sikh wars against the British in Punjab, but this book definitely supersedes those two on the scale of research and complexity of its resources. This definitely isn't a light read, but thoroughly enjoyable for any one who has a profound interest in post-medieval and early modern Indian history.

Must read book for history aspirants and researchers.
Last year I have read two books on Anglo-Sikh wars written by author of this book Mr Amarpal Singh. There is no doubt that Mr. Amarpal Singh's grip on history is very strong. In this book he has given a detailed account of the events that took place in Delhi during the 1857 revolution. I wish them all the best in the future for writing more historical books to enhance our knowledge. May God keep him and his family healthy forever. With regards:-Suraj Singh NattLudhiana.

Loved it
The Siege of Delhi is One of the finest Works of History I have read in my entire breathing life. The author takes us on a journey of time travel filled with Our Rich Indian heritage, chapters of war, Chapters of things taken away from us. Every student is familiar with the word Mughal, but the ups and downs the twist and turns in the Mughal dynasty, the rebellions, the British, THIS BOOK GIVES US ALL ELEMENTS.People often tend to believe that History books are just boring facts but I assure you that this book is different the narration, the words are written in such a manner that it creates an automatic response of a story enriched with History but With a Mysterious aura to it that will keep you going continuously till the very end.The book doesn't burden you with repeated mentions of dates, it makes a story worth investing your time in. The book divided into multiple chapters, gives you adequate breaks and the thrill, the suspicion, the curiosity to absorb each and every page.

Must Read
“The historical sense involves a perception, not only of the past but of its presence”.The title of the book majorly forms the whole of the literary work as the rebellious attitude of the Indian sepoys marked a new height thereby entailing a valiant attempt to capture Delhi as being a city of strategic importance, but whether the same would materialize or hopes would be crushed is something that is to be explored by the readers themselves. The content is spread across 544 pages and further divided into 4 parts. Delving further, prior to the first part the author ensures that the reader must be acquainted with the relevant chronology and set of events to further explore the chapters as can be seen from references including that of List of Maps, Chronology, Prologue etc. The chapters have been divided into specific phases and depict the prime causes that led to the mutiny and how it all unfolded. The writing style of the book can be surmised as simple and systematic as usage of factual assertions with chronological proofs add to the simplicity of the literary work at hand and also does a decent job in ensuring reader’s attention in a genre involving history and thus can be construed as a must read for anyone willing to explore a literary work that stresses upon a dynamic presentation of history with exactness and simplicity.

Well researched and a welcome addition to Mutiny Books
Amarpal has penned an exhaustive history of the Siege of Delhi , if we can call it one that is of events between June to September 1857 .Very well researched and the tale brilliantly told quoted from plethora of books referred .It is appreciable the story of post recovery by the British of the city and of plunder and loot by the British army prize agents , of the merciless killings by the British sanctified by cooked up tales of atrocities on women and children , as in Lucknow mutiny tale spinners , has been told well .Delhi still has many deep marks of 1857 at places the events happened . Delhi was never ever same - the scars have been too deep cut by the British .Highly recommended for history enthusiasts and those who loved Delhi .

A Scholarly book
Book: ‘The Siege of Delhi’ written by Amarpal Singh. This book has a detailed account of the events leading to the uprising of 1857 in India by the sepoys of the army of the British East India Company. An elaborate narrative of the British attempt to re-occupy Delhi by a small, but well disciplined force is chronicled in the book along with the strategy and challenges faced by them to suppress the uprising comprising of numerically superior rebel troops. The book has poignant details of how both Europeans and Indians faced each other’s retribution and how savagely humans can retaliate against each other during times of war. The book concludes by giving an account of how the landscape of the city of Delhi, built by the Great Mughals was forever changed. The book has been written in an unbiased manner and has accurate, historical information to support the narrative. There is no hidden agenda in the book which may blame any community or race for the horrendous deeds committed by the rebels or the barbaric atrocities inculcated by the victors on the general population of the city. The facts are presented in a narrative which is lucid, interesting and non-judgemental to the reader. This is a must read book for anyone interested in learning about one of the most important events of the Indian history and how it paved way for the ultimate rule of the British crown for the next 90 years.Amarpal Singh is the author of two books:The First Anglo Sikh WarThe Second Anglo Sikh War

An excellent account.
Having read both of the author's books on the Sikh Wars, I was thrilled to see this volume available. Mr. Singh has an engaging writing style that brings events to life and keeps the reader's interest. His research is obviously exhaustive, and the net result is a book that is educational as well as entertaining.
