My 9 year old loved this book

Eleven year old Ben's parents are obsessed with ballroom dancing. They dump him at his granny's on Friday evenings to watch their favorite show Strictly Stars Dancing at the studio. Ben hates it. He thinks old people are not much fun. On one such visit, Ben discovers something that changes his perception of his grandmother.I love this story. It's simple and makes fun of a lot of things we are taught to fear and respect. And the grandmother grandson relationship is truly touching.David Williams also visits the subject of parental pressure. Ben wants to be a plumber. His parents think it is a dead-end job and want him to be a dancer worthy of national television instead. While the clashes are comical portrayed, they impart a strong message.A wonderful book. Now if only I can get my nephews and nieces to read it...

Cute little story about a kid and his granny. Great for children to read and have a light moment

Ben thinks his Granny is boring, and he hates going to her house every Friday evening to spend time with her. The actul story starts one night when Ben calls his parents to come and pick him up from his Granny's house because he is getting bored as his Granny does only two things which he hates: drinks cabbage soup and play Scrabble. Granny hears his him and feels bad. She then pretends like a jewel thief and wants Ben to think she is one. Then, they go on a mission to steal the Crown Jewels. Will they be successful, or will they get caught? Read the book to find out?

Oh my god I can't believe I forgot to review this book for so long. It is SO good. It has to be the one of the best books David Williams has written. The first time I read this I got soooooo sad that (SPOILER ALERT) granny died. The author described it so well as well, (amazing description by me, I know) and what I mean by he "described it so well" is that it will probably make you sad, and I'm a practical person (or so my mother says anyway🧐) so basically buy it. (Plus my name is Rishi and I'm 10 years old)

This book is about Ben a eleven year old boy who hates his granny. His grandma was the original bookish granny. She smelled like cabbages,she had white hair, and wore specticals that enlarged her eyes to the size of a basket ball. Ben goes to his granny’s house every week while his parents go to ballroom dancing classes. His parents were obsessed with ballroom dancing. Ben even thought that his parents would save Flavio Flavioli’s (a famous dancer) shoes from a fire than rather save there only son. On one Friday he discovers that his granny was a gangster ! A real life gangsta granny! What he does not know is that his grandma was actually lying to get his attention. His grandma tells him made up stories about how she stole and how she really wanted to steal the queens jewels. To fulfil his gansta granny’s dream he makes a plan. Will they succeed? Will his grandma tell him the truth?
