Maybe I just don't get it
I am totally new to jewelry soldering and I bought this board for that purpose. First time I used it, I laid my chain and jump ring on this board, fluxed and soldered. The pieces stuck to the board and when I pried them off, bits of the board stuck to the pieces. You can scrape the surface of this board off with any tool, it just crumbles. Maybe I'm not using it right, but since it comes with no instructions I'm pretty clueless. I ended up putting a ceramic tile on top of this board so I could solder directly on the ceramic tile and not have the tile stick to my pieces. This board does absorb heat well because my tile isn't getting all that hot.If someone can tell me that I'm just not supposed to solder directly on this board and that's why I'm having these issues, then I'll change my rating. It would be nice if they told you exactly how to use it though.

Just what I needed
I recently took a class and learned how to solder copper wire. We used one of these boards. I had the opportunity to buy one from the instructor but thought I had one at home and didn't need it. Well, what I had at home was actually one of those "bricks" that came with a PMC clay kit and was to be used for firing clay. The solder I was using kept falling into the "nooks and crannies" of the brick, so I quickly realized I really did need one of these boards. This does the trick. It's a nice flat surface, doesn't take up a whole lot of room on my little soldering area. I did notice that some of the solder seemed to stick to the board the last time I used it, so I need to keep an eye on that. Maybe I need to make sure I start with a very clean board and I missed that something was on it. Otherwise, it's working great!

You need to understand what to expect
Hi guys. I bought a new soldering board made of a different material and I couldn't figure out why my backplates weren't soldering to the bezels. Well turns out my new soldering board doesn't reflect heat the way that this one does. This baby will heat up your backplates like nothing! I love this soldering board but occaisonally my pieces will get stuck to the board. No biggie. Just expect to have to rebuy this every 3-6 months depending on how often you use it.

Works exactly as anticipated
This does just what I need it to do - provides a surface that absorbs heat and allows me to work on jewelry fabrication with a torch and solder. After heavy repeated use, the material starts to flake and crack a little, but that's also expected - it's not a forever tool, and the cost is low enough that I can just order another one when I need it.

Great for small projects!
Nice board for soldering. I have used these in the past for my jewelry making. Handy item to have in the studio. This product seems solid. It arrived undamaged and ready to go to work. Measures 6" x 6" x 3/4" thick.
