I attached to an AR15 platform, works great but not sure about mini 14

No reason you couldn't... Just need sling attachments. In my case, i run it with QD mounts..

Will this fit on traditional AK sling attachments or do I need one of those loop thingymajigies?

Unsure what you mean by traditional AK sling attachments but the sling itself is pretty thick and sturdy. Recommend getting a clip adapter so there's more resilience/workability.
