My Grandmother had a rolling pin very similar to this and she made the BEST pie crusts and biscuits. I put the rolling pin in the refrigerator along with the other ingredients for my pie crust..give it about an hour for everything to chill well. Keeping things cold and working the dough as little as possible are key to flaky tender crusts. And this rolling pin handles everything easily. I don't have any issues with dough sticking to the pin as long as its cold. It also works very well with cookie dough, and any other dough I have put to it. I love it. Nice weight, not to heavy for arthritic hands, rolls easily and smoothly. I LOVE it! It works perfectly and is just what we wanted. The stand was damaged upon arrival but customer service has so far been very helpful and understanding in trying to help us. Will update if/when we get a new stand. It was a gift for my parents and they wanted the stand too. I'm sure you could do without it or use something else if necessary because the rolling pin itself is great! Appreciate the attentive customer service so far. It is of course much heavier than wood or plastic rolling pins so never having used anything else, the weight of it takes a little getting used to. It works beautifully though, and is beautiful in appearance. Perhaps not a worthy investment for the casual baker, but if you do a significant amount of baking you'll want to add a high quality rolling pin to your collection of tools and this one definitely fits the bill!
