Scholastic Rotten Rulers

fun book series
I like the series, they are funny and tell some of the lesser told parts of history. One have to remember that they are written for 10-15 year old-ish.the author have said that it is difficult not to write something wrong, because the first constants used to be considered the truth, but by the time the rest of the book had been written, those truths had been disproved. Also a good theme in the books is that you shouldn't always believe what a historian have written, because the winner writes the history.

effective teaching book
My son loves all these books. They have helped to create a very real interest in history for him. I think he now has the whole series of them. They present history in a manner that makes it both interesting and easy for children to access. There is not one in the series that fails to do this. The only problem with them is that they provide some stuff outside the curricilum and that can embarass the teachers faced with a child knowing more than they are expected to. I think a lot of teachers are now reading them to keep up with the kids.

Rotten rulers from all over the world
The book covers a lot of rotten rulers. I like how the book doesn't just concentrate on british rulers but includes rulers from all over the world. There are also plenty of british rulers included but it is "nice" to also see such rulers as Ivan the terrible and Pol Pot.
