How long do these knives hold an edge?

For others in the future, the truth is this:

Not longer than the first few times you use them. If you use them on a hard surface they're going to get dull immediately. This is typical of cheap (read that: affordable) kitchen knives. 99.9% of the kitchen knife sets you see on Amazon in the $30 - $100 price range are made from the same steel in the same handful of factories by the same handful of workers. Only the brand is different. That steel is "German" 1.4116, aka "German High-Carbon Stainless", "German Stainless", X50CR15MoV, 5Cr15MoV and any other variant of these letters and numbers. Most of this steel isn't even German, but a Chinese made copy of a steel originally developed in Germany.

Nothing especially wrong with this. 1.4116 is bog standard user friendly knife steel. Dulls very quickly, but easy to sharpen, not too brittle and fairly rust resistant as long as you keep them out of the dishwasher. Where problems arise is in heat treat and edge grind, both of which are all over the place when it comes to Chinese manufacturing.

TOPFEEL is probably right in that the original edge grind (the secondary or edge bevel) will last 3-5 years with moderate household use, but "the original edge grind will last 3-5 years" =/= "the knife will stay sharp for 3-5 years", which is what people mean by "hold an edge".

These knives are high-quality in all respects. You will be able to see and feel the quality as soon as you remove them from the box; in fact, even the box is of high quality, with magnets in the lid/flap to help keep it closed. I take good care of these knives, and hand-wash them as opposed to using the dishwasher, and they still look and work perfectly great, and remain as sharp as when new, after 2 years of ownership.
