SSAT 9 Reading & Verbal Tests: +20 Hidden Rules in Verbal (SAT Hackers)

When we got the book, the book had stains everywhere on the corners, even though we bought it new. Then, my son tried to do one of the Verbal practice tests. The questions on the test did not make any sense most of the time, and some of their explanations were horrible. (e.g for a Analogy question "Heart is to body as..." My son answered "Wheel is to car". However, the book said that the correct answer was "Sun is to Solar System". Their explanation was that "The heart is at the center of our body, as the sun is at the center of the solar system." My son said, "engine is to car" would have been better, since the heart pumps blood and the engine runs the car, but there was no answer choice like that.)Other books are so much better, like the Kaplan 2019-2020 SSAT and ISEE prep which has good practice tests, good study guides, and good explanations. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK !

The book is so poorly written and filled with grammatical errors to the point where it is a distraction for studying. There are spelling or grammar errors on every page, and half of the reading comprehension passages are full of cryptic, long and sometimes run-on sentences. Such a poor example of a teaching aid, this was not written by an educational professional and it shows badly. Other study aids are far superior - don't buy this one.

This is a must have book for SSAT verbal and reading preparing. We bought several different SSAT books for my son, and he told me this was the best and useful book for vocabury and reading. Recently He took the SSAT test and got very good scores on both verbal and reading sections. We are very happy and would like to recommend this book to other students who are preparing for SSAT test.

it is not organized and has very hard problems

Thus is a great resource for studying for the SSAT because it provides detailed strategies and explanations for each practice question. Combined with a study of vocab words (which the author sent separately in an email), and hopefully our son will be all set!

Great book. Very informative and contains all the secret tricks to SSAT. Recommended to anyone who wants to get a good score on the SSAT

They include a free vocabulary list, which is an asset!

This book confused me and my daughter greatly.

Really awful book. Total waste of money. The “patterns” are not particularly helpful. And there aren’t enough practice test questions. Wouldn’t recommend.
