With the "Single arm" model the mounting plate fits perfectly on a 4x4 post. I would say it's about 3.5" wide. and has holes for 3 screws. **Q: Would this hose reel be difficult for a woman to turn when all or most of the hose is on it?** A: No. It turns easily when winding the hose back on. Rotating the direction of the wheel is a little tricky, but easy when you figure out how the stop works. Nothing about this device requires great strength. **Q: can the handle go on either side?** A: I just called Liberty Garden products and they say NO you CANNOT reverse the handle on the rotating wheels. You also CANNOT reverse the direction of the spool-spigot (they call it the elbow). Their limited design-think said, wow!- let's make it rotate 360 so you can use it all ways! NOT! This is a wall mount, so guess what? Only 180 degress are usable!! I just bought one anyway (model 714) and also a U-joint with hose-fittings to "fix" their problem. **Q: I would like to replace a broken hose reel and would like to use the same holes.
