Great sharpening stone
This has been a quality stone. If you are like me, It is difficult to decide what type of sharpening setup you are going to use with hand tools if you are just getting into it with little to know knowledge to pull from. The diamond system is what I landed on. So I can't compare to Arkansas stones/whetstones at the moment. I can say I find these very useful when sharpening chisels in particular. I don't love sharpening my plane irons on them, but I do. The stone is not wide enough to work the plane irons straight on, so I have to skew my blade to hone wider plane irons. For the record I am a hobbyist woodworker for sure, no expert here, I'm just here sharing my experience. The diamond stone could be considered "expensive" so it kind of stink to have to buy it, but if you are using hand tools, having a way to sharpen your tools should be placed as a higher priority than the tool itself.A dull blade is just plane not safe to use, and it doesn't work the way it should, which will make you stop working with hand tools all together.I would buy this again, and I would recommend it to a friend. Just know you will have to work a little harder to sharpen your plane irons.I use the 300 / 1000 combo and finish with a leather strop. Probably not the sharpest tool, but that gets the job done for me.

Hand plane iron now properly set up and sharp
With this and a sharpening guide, I finally got may smoothing plane iron back to flat and nice and sharp. I got the 3” wide one so my widest blade could be run straight up and down with extra room. much nicer experience than the thin whetstone I was using .This thing is solid.I also got their special blue liquid, it helps.Much more pleasant to plane wood and not have to fight clogs every few strokes. Beyond that.. the shaving are great!

Great for woodworker tools
I really like this "stone". The 300 side makes quick work if you have a tool that is a little off angle. The 1000 side provides a nice initial polish that I enhance with finer grit stones. The 300 side doubles as a flattning plate for my other stones as well.

Worth the price
Purchased the 180/600 combination stone recently to use specifically for establishing a bevel and/or flattening chisel and plane iron backs. So far it has exceeded my expectations. Cuts very fast and feels similarto my Shapton stones in use.Replacing a DMT coarse/fine combo plate that cut so slow I felt like I was wasting my time on it. The DMT costs about half as much but only works half as well, so the adage of “you get what you pay for” holds true here.Would have been a 5 Star review except that the plate began to oxidize almost immediately while using water to lubricate it. I refuse to spend money on Trend’s “lapping fluid” so i will have to find a better solution.

a must have in the wood shop
this stone with some Windex keeps every bit and knife on my shaper/planter/jointer in top cutting condition, excellent quality for the price and the 600 grit is perfect for putting a nice sharp edge on the cutters.
