No rip, tears or anything else negative happening. Only negative I can see is it might be a little kiddish for a third grader, therefore, we bought him another pack more age appropriate. Things change with Manufacturing and I’ve read some of the negative reviews. My son’s backpack came with the mesh side pocket but not the fancy fabric on the packs back straps. Can’t remember if that was a selling feature at the time I bought this one. It’s not right when you make a decision to buy a product based on what you see, then receive the product and they send you something totally different. In our case we got what we ordered. The lunch box didn’t fair so well and with daily use, it got quite nasty on the inside but the outside still looked great.
